Ariana Huffington's book - damn her.

I don't say that lightly.
Right Is Wrong: How the Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America, Shredded the Constitution, and Made Us All Less Safe by Huffington is an important book, the more so when you feel you have to wash your hands when you pick it up.

She manages to capture the very essence of what went wrong here, especially with the media. Her coverage of Judy MIller, IraqNam, the gas price scam, Cheney, Bush, woodward, hell, she catalogs it all and picks off the scab. No, she rips it off completely.

When you put it all together, like she has, with cites, naming names, putting things in perspective, and quoting the exact words of the miscreants and wrongdoers, even a dedicated liberal like me starts shaking the head, wondering why it took so long for us to get it all.

don't get me wrong. I recommend this book. She has done a very nice job putting it all together. I am more pissed at myself than anyone else - and I thought i had put it together a lot earlier.

1. Where the hell were you?
Some of us saw this shit coming down the shoot in 1996...

Hillary warned us, remember? She threw the word conspiracy into everyday lingo...

I remember the phrase "right-wing conspiracy", don't you?

Before Art Bell, before Google, before The Daily Show (with Jon Stewart), before GW AND DU!

I'm An Obama loyalist, white WOMAN, celebrating, listening to Pryor Live on my deregulated cable

and surfing DU on an Historic evening and scaring the shit outta myself...

Excuse me and love to you all.

3. More to the point, where was Arianna Huffington then?
She was one of the worst of the right wing back in the 1990s - - and spent 2000 actively trying to get people to not vote Dem.

I'm just sayin'...

5. Everyone has the right to make a mistake, and to recant it later wen they realize.

I am not condoning it, just merely stating what I believe to be a truth.

Besides, even today, when 98-99% of Americans are STILL CLUELESS about the larger issues and dangers (we have no Free Press to give them the facts of it), Arianna STILL caught on long before everyone else.

Add to that the lure, what must be an incredible lure, or the massive wealth of the Republic Party Propaganda Pay Korps.

All she had to do was keep repeating Bushie Lies, and her money and fame would have swelled. She would always have a rich, cushy job, and as the Bushie Lie Machine STILL exerts communist-level control over the direction of what laughably passes for our National Dialogue these day, she would have been beloved by millions and millions of crazed-Bushie-Nazi programmed 'droids.

Far more people than "love" her today for speaking a truth that 98-99% of Amerikan Subjects are still clueless about (oh, they might be angry because they are finally feeling the economic squeeze that their ignorance in the face of tyranny has wrought, but they don't really know why, they just know it hurts).

Add all of that together, love of millions of Bushie-Nazis, being part of the hunters instead of the hunted, always having a cushy job where you can be lazy as you want, fact-checking not needed, just repeat the bullshit that you are fed then hit the gym for the afternoon, being treated like a goddamned Rhodes Scholar by the Toady Media, no matter how ignorant, senseless, or crazy are the things you say.

Think about it. My God, I'm not sure many of us fragile human beings could resist the lure of all that, if offered to us.

Think about it. I am not saying to wholly forgive Arianna for her contributions to the Bushies' finishing off the Old American Republic, but try to understand just what it was she gave up to follow this dangerous and unrewarding course.

A course that, a mere fifty years ago, might have gotten her murdered, or thrown into jail fifty years from now it might be back to the same, maybe much sooner). A course that even today, as we all know and have felt, is personally dangerous to our being able to make a living, among other things.

6. As an Obama supporter--
I really didn't like the way Ariana's Huff Post went after Clinton. Sorry, but I kind of like a balance in political reporting.

But otherwise, I like Ariana and her opinions.

8. She was on about four or five days a week ranting against Clinton. She ranted
on and on about family values. She seemed to be the lead person in the theme byte chants that all Republicans picked up and sang. All in related to Monica. Just admit it. Just come forward. Just admit it. Justsay your sorry. Just Just. It was like a sweeping mantra-chant on every program from every right wing operative. There is no doubt that she was on the inside of the character assassintion of Bill Clinton and probably attended the seminars they held to learn tricks of talking on the talk shows. Hers was vile stuff with an overtone of a plea to get people to listen.

12. She has described where she was: she was a *Xian* (Gk Ortho) conservative
but when she went around soliciting charity from other conservatives, alleged Xians, she got blown off repeatedly. Finally the penny dropped for her: these creatures were lying in their teeth about their faith. They're nothing but greedy scum. And if *they* represent conservatism, then she's in the wrong pew.

And so she turned her back on them and moved leftward in search of real faith, real compassion.

11. I was not enamored with Bill, on several levels.
There's populism and there's governing by poll. Neither truly describes leadership.
12 yr ago, I was a different person, going thru a horrible divorce, not interested much in foreign issue, just self-preservation at that time.
