I do. I think it could happen anywhere.

5. All other things being equal...
All other things being equal (same fundamental type of govt., laws maintaining EEO and the by-product laws, etc.) I don't think it would be possible in this country.

As for other parts of the word, it is happening...

6. Yes, of course
It can happen anywhere. That's the lesson too easily forgotten.

I lived in L.A. during the riots; something else I didn't think could happen here (again) until I experienced it firsthand. That woke me up.

7. Considering Chimpy's path has mirrored Hitler's in many ways
it would be the logical progression of this sickening neocon mentality, were it allowed to continue. Hopefully we're moving away from that shit now. But, at the peak of the post 9-11 hysteria, when you had Anne Coulter openly calling for the execution of Liberals (and the Freeps cheered) and all of this war propaganda going on without being questioned, the seeds for a Holocaust mentality were definitely being sown. There are still idiots out there who think there should be a death penalty for homosexuality. And some of them are dominionists who could potentially be advising John McCain if he became President.

Hopefully we're moving away from fascism and back to reality in this country. But anyone who took a good look at what happened here the last 7 years and compared it to the early years of Hitler couldn't help but notice the parallels.

9. Humans are capable of all sorts of cruelties.
Mass slaughter of other people has happened on many occasions since WWII. Many Americans attempt to comfort themselves by believing that it wouldn't be possible in the U.S., but our country has been a major perpetrator of atrocities since 1945. If our government can murder people on a massive scale in other countries, I can't think of a logical reason for why it couldn't do it here.

11. never underestimate...

Never underestimate the human capacity for sell-delusion. Just look at GW Bush who actually believes God wanted him to be president. Insane as he is, he became president of the world's only superpower and led us into an illegal war of aggression as most in the US cheered.

If in the 21th century we STILL can't yet get people in an advanced industrial democracy like the US to think rationally about religion, patriotism, etc. then why expect it about anything? In this regard we're little different than people a century ago. And when the next Holocaust comes, those who perpetuate won't think of themselves of mass murders. They'll honestly think they are doing the work of God or Nation.

the round up and internment of the Japanese. All that is needed is for the government to declare certain people undesirable.
