House subpoenas Karl Rove
By LARA JAKES JORDAN – 14 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Judiciary Committee has subpoenaed former White House adviser Karl Rove as part of its inquiry into whether the Bush administration politically meddled at the Justice Department.

Accusations of politics governing decisions at the agency led to the resignation of former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

The subpoena issued Thursday orders Rove to testify before the House panel on July 10. He is expected to face questions about the White House's role in firing nine U.S. attorneys in 2006 and the prosecution of former Gov. Don Siegelman of Alabama, a Democrat.

House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers had negotiated with Rove's attorneys for more than a year over whether the former top political adviser to President Bush would testify voluntarily.

all these fucking blood-soaked war criminals. If they try to prosecute now, the pardons will be flying all over the place.

I'd sure love to see Rove arrested, though.

Hey kpete, love your posts, might wanna check the spelling in your title there.

21. I Could See Rove Tesifying...
and lying like a rug...daring Conyers to cite him in contempt and then get boooosh to pardon him from any further prosecution.

I agree with you, this is just building up the case...just like the skilled prosecutor many of these Judiciary Committee members are...they know the score and once the dark cloud of Executive Privilidge ends, we'll see a lot more aggressive actions. In the meanwhile, here's to giving Rove and the rest of these crooks more rope.

32. Bush is going to issue pre-emptive pardons, I have no doubt.
I know it's illogical to pardon someone for a crime they haven't been charged with, much less convicted of. I know it's not legal, and a serious abuse of power to even try it. In other words, it's exactly what I'd expect from the Bush team.

What's more, I expect this fascist Supreme Court would back it up, and most of the Democratic Party would anxiously accept the move, if it meant they could just ignore this festering wound and "move on".

47. Did he?
I know he issued pardons-- I didn't realize they were pre-emptive. How can you issue a pardon for a crime that hasn't been charged yet? Besides the illogical nature of it, isn't such a pardon an outright acknowledgment of your own complicity in the crime?

Or, maybe, tell the truth...and then Congress does nothing with this explosive information.

All-in-all, I'm not optimistic. I doubt KKKArl will ever have to pay for his wrong-doing.

19. Exactly!
In my opinion, this "news" is a big yawn. Bush and his administration have basically broken every law under our Constitution. Instead of getting in trouble and paying for their "sins"...they've gotten to change the Constitution.

KKKarl isn't going to pay for his wrong-doing.

The only good thing coming out of this subpoena is that this will be on the record for future generations to study...much the way current history students study the demise of the Nazi regime. The students will all shake their heads and wonder why we didn't do more.

WHY CAN'T WE STOP THESE CROOKS? I am so frustrated by the obvious injustices in our country!

Something is clearly broken. We need a new President, one with the balls to take this on and investigate and prosecute. I think that President was Edwards and he said as much. But the PTB ran him off for obvious reasons. So we will see what happens.

51. BCF believe it now.
watching Dan Abrams, Isiakoff,Newsweek Writer said something like they should after the small fish from the Seigleman case first, then it would drawn in the big fish like Rove, I heard that before in another instance from John Dean, Conyers should go after the small fish first and that will lead to getting the bigger fish. The whole thing stinks, Rove is up to his eyeballs in committing crimes, the arrogance and belligerence is stunning.

If the House Judiciary has called Rove to come before them to answer questions, then that's it: compel him to appear and be done with it. All of this foot dragging is ridiculous.
