SCREW THE BIG OIL COMPANIES!!
We’re going to skip our Memorial Day weekend trip and stay at home.

We’re going to barbeque hamburgers, hotdogs and maybe a tri-tip, drink a lot of beer and watch the Indy 500 on our new 52” LCD TV with a bunch of our friends who have also cut back on their travel plans...

Go Danica Patrick!!

1. You can thank BushCo too, for devaluing the dollar so much
The resulting inflation plays a part at the pump and has also increased the cost of your BBQ.

Which I hope you enjoy. :hi:

2. It would be great (but very difficult) to have a one day boycott
If everyone stayed home, took a day off, didn't fly, didn't consume any gas for one day, it might just shock the shit out of the oil companies. An earlier post showed difinitively how the war is causing the spike in oil prices.

13. In The Future
...our nostalgic urges will be well-satisfied by watching others drive cars. All we'll need is a giant television machine. It's started already.

7. Bingo, we have a winner!
Corporofascist control of critical natural resources has brought us to this catastrophic place.

Only by nationalizing energy production and collectively developing renewable energy can we make it to the post-petroleum age.

Working together for the common good is not evil socialism, it's the only way to survive.

5. Big oil isn't doing this one
it's the hedge funds and other speculators, aided by an oily administration that keeps bloating the Strategic Petroleum Reserve instead of using it as it was designed, to knock down speculator or OPEC driven price gouging. By continuing to bloat it, Stupid is telling his hedge fund buddies "Drive it up as far as you can! I'll protect your ill gotten gains! Fuck America!"

That's where it's coming from, not the oil giants or the refiners or the poor bastard who's spending more hours at his station because he's selling less gas (and he makes a flat per gallon profit) and he's had to let a couple of people go.

If you want to be angry, be angry at financial market deregulation, at sending Wolfowitz to the IMF just in time to torpedo international regulation of hedge funds, and at the stupid fiscal policies that have driven the value of the dollar into the basement.

Save your rage for the GOP. They did this to you, all of it. Make sure everybody else knows it, too.

6. The "Big Oil Companies"
control 10% of the worlds crude supply. The rest is in the hands of nationalized oil companies in foreign countries.

Do people really believe that someone who controls 10% of a resource also controls the worldwide price of that resource?

The blame REALLY belongs with the people who buy gas guzzling SUVs and live 50 miles away from work. Wasting far more than our fair share of the oil in the world, we Americans are responsible for a large portion of the increase in price.

The other important factor is that world supplies of oil are dwindling. In 1965 we hit 85 million barrels per day production. We have not exceeded that production figure since. Many experts agree that we may NEVER exceed 85 million barrels per day. The current world demand is 87 million barrels per day. THAT is why prices keep going up.

Get used to the fact that oil prices are NEVER going to be low again. NEVER. The only option for Americans is to get rid of the gas guzzlers and do like the Europeans do: drive smaller cars, motor scooters, and bicycles. Get used to it.

Oh, and exactly how much oil was used to manufacture and ship that 52" LCD TV that every American seems to have the insane notion that they are entitled to, while the rest of the world starves?

12. I agree with both you and the OP's sentiment. You are right
that the price will NEVER come down in any substantial manner. And, the LCD TV notwithstanding, is doing exactly what people should be doing in reaction to high oil prices - or depletion.

And people WILL adjust - or else.

14. By the way, I just had installed a 2000KW solar system to help
power my 54" LCD and many other things. I just love standing by the DC convertor and watching how much power I'm generating..
