South Carolina ignorance
This state is amazing, firmly rooted in the 19th century. Here's a story from a local blog called A Lie A Day:

_________________________________________________________________________________________________
The formation of a Gay-Straight Alliance Club at Irmo High School has encouraged the principal to show the world just how uninformed, under-educated and ill suited for educational leadership he really is. This is from his statement:

On May 14, 2008, I was instructed by email to allow the formation of a Gay/Straight Alliance Club at Irmo High School. On May 15, 2008 I told Ms. Ann Pilat to allow the formation of this club for the 2008-2009 school year.
Allowing the formation of this club on our campus conflicts with my professional beliefs and religious convictions.
The formation of this club conflicts with my professional beliefs in that we do not have other clubs at Irmo High school based on sexual orientation, sexual preference, or sexual activity. In fact our sex education curriculum is abstinence based. I feel the formation of a Gay/Straight Alliance Club at Irmo High school implies that students joining the club will have chosen to or will choose to engage in sexual activity with members of the same sex, opposite sex, or members of both sexes.

Here's a link to the whole story: http://alieaday.blogspot.com/ The good news is that this jackass is retiring a year earlier than he had planned because of the incident and will be gone after this year.
Other SC News: our enlightened state legislature is passing a las to provide for a new license plate - it will feature a cross and the words I Believe. A couple of years ago it cost the state $50,000 to lose a court challenge over a Pro-Life tag; how in the hell do they think this will be any different. A Jewish organization has already put the state on notice and asked the Governor to veto the bill.

1. Mighty broad brush you're painting with there
One school principal equals millions of people who just happen to live within the same imaginary border?

The whole species is stuck in the Dark Ages mentally and emotionally.

2. I've lived here 57 years
There is no question this guy is representative of a huge majority of the population. Unfortunately, that broad brush is pretty accurate.
