NAME OF EVENT: Arlington West Candlelight Vigil
LOCATION OF EVENT: Stearns Wharf, Santa Barbara, California
DESCRIPTION OF EVENT: To commemorate Memorial Day 2008 Chapter 54 Veterans For Peace will maintain the 3000 crosses of Arlington West on the beach overnight on Sunday May 25, with an honor guard of veterans. After a ceremony at sundown, led by Santa Barbara Mayor and VFP Associate Member Marty Blum, candles will be lit around the perimeter of the memorial. On Monday May 26 Colonel Ann Wright (USA Retired) will visit and join our chapter in a series of Memorial Day events, in collaboration with other veterans organizations.

LOCATION OF EVENT: Peace Arch Park, Blaine, WA
DESCRIPTION OF EVENT: The Bellingham and Seattle chapters of Veterans For Peace are once again sponsoring ARLINGTON NORTHWEST, a traveling exhibit honoring our fallen soldiers in Iraq. This year’s display of nearly 4,100 markers, fashioned after Arlington National Cemetery, has been endorsed by the national coalitions of VETERAN FOR PEACE and IRAQ VETERANS AGAINST THE WAR (IVAW). A memorial ceremony at the Peace Arch will be conducted at 2 p.m. with accompanying bagpipes and bugler. Display guides and free parking available.
