Supporting the USA! with your 'stimulus check'

The federal government is sending each and every one of us a $600 rebate.

If we spend it at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China ..
If we spend it on gasoline, the money will go to the Arabs.
If we purchase a computer it will go to India.
If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico , Honduras and Guatemala.
If we purchase a good car, it will go to Japan.
If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy.

The only way to keep the money here at home is to spend it on prostitutes, weed, beer and tattoos since these are the only products still produced in the USA . Thank you for your help and please support the USA!

--corny I know but a funny email I just got from a co-worker--

1. I'm still buying a computer
I don't smoke or drink beer and I don't want a tattoo or a divorce on grounds of infidelity. So I'm pretty much screwn if I want to buy American.

2. Good cars are made in America
I'm sorry - but you people really need to leave the 80s behind.

The best built cars are American cars now. Japanese cars bite and too expensive to fix.

Otherwise, good points.

10. But most the profits go to foreign companies for those cars
Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and a few others have plants here is US but they also avoid many of the corporate taxes by loopholes for foreign companies.

Ford & Chevy have a lot of their plants in Mexico & Canada, so really, what cars are totally made in America anymore?

11. True... but my point was about American manufacturers.
I can get a GOOD American car.

In fact, my Ford has never had any problems whilst my husband's BMW is rife with them.

I would never own a Toyota. They're the No. 1 most recalled car on the road now.

13. Agree...
80's thinking is about where it's made - but now we just have to look at the manufacturer and still see that the tax codes favor the foreign owned companies.

And quality is perceived... I know as Americans we could make A LOT of items much better quality than what we purchase now. I would rather pay double for a t-shirt made here. It would probably last twice as long, but most Americans see items as 'less expensive' instead of 'cheaply & poorly made' and they would have to buy 2 cheap t-shirts in the time I would buy and utilize 1!

4. I'm hiring a local guy to cut down some trees around my house,
and haul them off in his truck. This is work I cannot do, since I don't have a truck or the tools. The best part is that his money is tax free.

8. I spent most of mine on
Edited on Thu May-22-08 08:14 AM by woodsprite
11 wks of summer day camp for my son and a week of presby. youth retreat for my daughter. Hmm, maybe it'll tick the admin off because the presby youth retreat is on the liberal side and the summer camp devotes at least 4 weeks to 'green' topics where the kids help the cause. Let's see - recycling, global warming, environment, and food bank.

Yeah, that should do it!

16. I'm giving it to my veterinarian.
Frickin' cat and her frickin' ears, anyway.

Before that I was going to be giving it to my car manufacturer to replace the rims that got bent on our un-maintained roads this winter.

Had to choose between wobbly cat and wobbly car.

Wobbly cat won.

Sigh.
