Bush and Cheney didn't invent American imperialism but no previous administration has ever displayed such an appetite for mass murder and subjugation, in pursuit of empire. This nation's demise will be written in the misdeeds and atrocities to which we subject others. I only hope that there's time to make amends. Every day, I tell my students that we're leaving a huge mess for them to clean up. And, even though some of us are really sorry about the whole situation, it's still their problem.
