New Light Source Lasts 15 Years Without a Recharge
http://ecoble.com/2007/12/11/new-light-source-lasts-15-years-without-a-recharge

How about a glowing light source that lasts for 15 years instead of the typical 15 minutes of a glowstick? GlowPaint’s newest product does just that and is also non-toxic and inexpensive and doesn’t require a recharge via solar or electrical sources for its entire lifespan. According to the company, “This has potential to save billions in energy costs world-wide. Litroenergy™ surpasses all known available lighting options for cost/durability/reliability and safety.” Their products are expected to be used to replace other forms of safety, emergency and novelty lighting duties normally performed by glow sticks, LEDs and other light sources.

“The Litrospheres are not effected by heat or cold, and are 5,000-pound crush resistant. They can be injection molded or added to paint. The fill rate of Litroenergy micro particles in plastic injection molding material or paint is about 20%. The constant light gives off no U.V. rays, and can be designed to emit almost any color of light desired.”

2. Now how can any corporation make tons of money off that?
I really don't see this working.

8. Because it's such a useful thing for so many applications!
According to http://www.glopaint.com this must be exposed to light for 15 minutes to make it glow--which totally fucks the application I was thinking of, painting your car's undercarriage. You COULD paint the rocker panels, though, and get a very good neon-like effect but with NO wiring and NO load on the car's electrical system.

You can add this pigment to plastic, so Royal Mouldings (say) could make glow-in-the-dark garage door brick mould sets. No more accidentally taking out the garage door jamb with your mirrors!

Every big-box retailer in America will want to paint their loading dock doors with this.

Their website shows bicycle rims and skateboard wheels made with this pigment, and discusses painting skateboard decks with it.

It will become THE pigment for lettering control panels of things like generators.

The Army will buy this by the barrel. Soldiers have "cats eyes" on their helmet bands so you can see the guy in front of you; the cats eyes they use now just reflect light, imagine cats eyes that glow.

3. So, free energy for 15 years?
It's a hoax IMO.

4. Sounds perfect for roadway markers in places without snow/ice.
The centerline reflective markers and road edge 'bump' markers would be outstanding.

9. I was thinking it would be better for roadway markers in places WITH snow/ice
Snowplows couldn't knock this off like they can the little plastic ones.

6. "Non-toxic" but radioactive...
Doesn't concern me since Beta radiation is easy to contain, but that is a play on the term "non-toxic". My watch numbers glow in the dark with tritium paint.

7. Bringing down the price of herb.
Imagine the scale of indoor grow operations, if they're freed from electricity costs.

10. This won't do that...
Not enough light--you can't grow weed by the light of a Cyalume lightstick, and that's about how bright this appears to be; and it must be charged for fifteen minutes for, probably, eight hours of light.
