Freak James Dobson calls California Supreme Court Ruling "Judicial Tyranny"
:nopity:

Dr. Dobson on California Ruling
Dr. Dobson’s response to a California Supreme Court decision.

Colorado Springs, Colo. (May 15, 2008) – Focus on the family founder and Chairman James C. Dobson, Ph.D., issued the following statement today in response to a California Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage in that state:

“In 1863, Abraham Lincoln said in the Gettysburg Address that ours is a government ‘of the people, by the people and for the people.’ Well, not in the state of California, where four imperious and unelected justices have just overridden the will of the voters. In 2000, Proposition 22 defined marriage as being exclusively between one man and one woman; the initiative passed by an overwhelming margin of 61 to 39 percent. That emphatic expression of the will of the people has now arrogantly been declared null and void.

“In so doing, the justices have undermined and endangered the basic building block of society, which has been honored and preserved in every nation on earth through most of human history. What an outrage. It will be up to the people of California to preserve traditional marriage by passing a constitutional amendment in the November elections. Only then can they protect themselves from this latest example of judicial tyranny.”

5. Puh-leeze...isn't this the same clown who cried "judicial tyranny"
when the state courts of Florida wouldn't interfere in the Terri Schiavo marriage and order a dissolution without the consent of the people IN the marriage?

The outrage is this cartoon character running around acting like anyone gives a damn about his booger nose being stuck in the private affairs of American citizens. I'd like to see a goddamned constitutional amendment prohibiting members of his political action/religious cult from marriage. . .and then listen to him cry "judicial tyranny" when he has to get his dominionist-supported legal organizations to haul the state into court for HIS rights.

7. My in-laws mentioned that they were against gay people getting married.
I just remember when they did, I responded with a story from my youth, while growing up in the south.

Mind you...I'm a little older, and I grew up the in pre-civil rights movement south.

There was a lady down the road from us that fell in love with, and married a black man. Because she was white, in rural Tennessee, all the neighbors got up in arms about it. I remember hearing people saying things like 'that woman has no respect for herself', and 'it's just just not the way god intended', and 'she just selfish. She plain doesn't care about what any of their children are going to have to go through as they grow up'. It's the same thing...these are people that are obviously in love, and care for each other, and wanted to just build a life and contribute to their communities. Instead, they basically got ostracized, and eventually ended up having to leave. So when people say that they are against gay marriage...I really don't see much of a difference between the that, and all those bigoted, intolerant people that I grew up with all those years ago.

Well, for the first time that I have ever seen the 2 of them, before or since; they were both at a loss for words. The thing that had completely slipped my mind, was that their daughter had married a black man. They both said after that that maybe they were thinking wrong on that. Just that stupid little story I told had changed their minds.

Your never going to change the minds of the truly degenerate hate merchants like Dobson; but the people who buy in to sick propaganda like he pushes CAN have their minds changed.

Oh...and fuck James Dobson with a rusty ice pick.

11. Best thing it was a Republican dominated court

"Today’s ruling by the Republican-dominated court affects more than 100,000 same-sex couples in the state, about a quarter of whom have children, according to U.S. census figures."

12. Well, also in 2000,
in the United States of America, five imperious and unelected justices overrode the will of the voters and made George W. Bush the president.

I don't recall Dobson bitching about that.

15. So now the California Constitution does not represent the will of the people?
Will these fundagelical nutjobs sacrifice everything that makes this country great just because they think their imaginary friend tells them they should? They are the ones who hate America and the principles this country was founded on.

16. Does Dobson not realize
that the Constitution and by extension the rights of the people guaranteed therein are NOT to be set aside by the will of the mob? For everyone who touts 'representative republic' (which we are) this should be a HUGE win for them. The will of the mob was set aside by the rule of supreme law...
