Teen Turns To Horse To Save Gas Money
Teen Saves $25 Per Week On Gas

ROCKWOOD, Tenn. -- High school senior Bradley Walker is coping with the high price of gas with some horsepower.

Walker is riding his horse Pumpkin to school in Rockwood. He figures he saves about $25 a week thanks to Pumpkin. The ride takes 45 minutes compared to a 10-minute drive.

While Walker is in class, his horse stays in a makeshift stall behind the school. School officials are looking for more stall space, in case other students want to ride instead of drive.

1. Well, I walked to school
and think it would be a good idea if more kids did. No need for stables then.

2. I am going to be riding my bike, will take an hour rather than 15 minutes.
Yup, the "good old days" are returning. More people are doing home gardening, less are buying out of season fruits, more will die younger because can't afford health care, on and on.

That's great that the school is working with him.

3. interesting. A local historian recently told me there were so many small schools here
100 years ago because they were spaced about 2 miles apart so kids could walk <1 mile to school.
