Doris Duke, Pee Wee Herman and Swift Boat Veterans for Truth

Doris Duke, Pee Wee Herman and Swift Boat Veterans for Truth

A snapshot of the bizarre Swift Boat GOP Universe.

In 1988, Doris Duke adopted a 35-year-old belly dancer and Hare Krishna named Chandi Heffner. In 91, Duke evicted Heffner after finding her in bed with one of Duke's security guards. Chandi Heffner was stripped from the will but after fierce litigation Heffner agreed to drop several claims against the estate (which would have compromised other Duke charities) in return for more than $65 million and a Hawaii ranch house. Her lawyer said the agreement would also keep Heffner from writing a book about Duke but had no bearing on another claim Heffner made seeking $110 million from a 1924 trust set up by Miss Duke's father.

Paul Reubens grew up in Sarasota, Florida, the son of an Israeli Air Force pilot. He is known for the Pee Wee Herman movie and children's tv show. Reubens came to know Doris Duke and her adopted adult daughter, Chandi Heffner, through Jim Nabors (whom he had met through Charo). Reubens and Chandi Heffner exchanged wedding vows at a dinner party at Duke's Hawaii estate. Imelda Marcos signed the marriage certificate.

The ex-belly-dancer, Hare Krishna devotee, and Mrs Pew Wee Herman has reinvented herself as a pillar of right-wing society by funneling Doris Duke's misbegotten fortune to the RNC, George W Bush and the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

From what I understand, Doris was pretty much the female equivalent of Howard Hughes on the paranoid/privacy scale.

But I kinda doubt she'd be please her money is being funneled to the RNC. :-(

6. Poor thing must be lonely for any company he can get. Ack.
I'd rather be on a deserted island than friends with something like that!

4. I had to look that up about Pee-Wee. It was a mock wedding, hopefully before
Ms. Heffner became a wrong winger.

5. Paul Reubens isn't even straight though.
I take it that was a mock wedding for humor or something. Pee Wee Herman as a right winger just doesn't feel right. They'd never accept his persona or him.

to Paul Reubens ever having been married, much less to Doris Duke's daughter. Edit: Well, not in his biographies on IMDB or Wikipedia.

edit again: Ah, I see. It was an "impromptu mock wedding ceremony".
