Sending to DPS for enforcing outstanding felony warrants. Take that you NAZI pink underwear pig! SABAN FOR SHERIFF! Oh and on edit the Mayor of Guadalupe was pulled over by Joe Underwear's deputies and cited for a missing headlight, no proof of registration or insurance. That Mayor threw him out of Guadalupe a couple of weeks back.

1. Do you have a link to something that elabaorates this news?
I've heard of Sheriff Joe. He's not a very nice person.

However, for the benefit of those of us who don't live in Arizona, could you please let us know what makes you so happy?

13. Old Sheriff Joe is a Frikkin' Riot.....
throwing a tantrum because instead of chasing nice easy illegal aliens he can abuse for the media, he might be forced to chase REAL criminals who tend to fight back.80% of those poor clowns in tent cities in the desert forced to wear pink underwear and eat dry bologna sandwiches as their main meal of the day are merely the economic underclass.Let's see how he struts his stuff when a percentage of his busts include violent criminals and the chance of personal injury...after all, bear hunting is only a sport because occasionally the bear wins...

26. You should see some of Joe's deputies. I worked at a B&N when his book first came out
and he had a signing at our store. You cannot imagine the hilarity of watching a bunch of balding or graying 250+ old men climbing stairs (I was their escort--the manager thought I'd enjoy it--and oh, yes indeed I did) with rifles to reach the roof.

Seriously, the megalomaniac jerk had 9 of his finest there--and planted three of them on the roof of a north Scottsdale, Arizona (very tony part of town and during the Clinton era) to deal with possible "threats." Six of them surrounded the table where he sat--and the staff and most of the customers could hardly contain their laughter. Some failed miserably, too--our manager had to leave!

27. I hear one of our more humorous deputies offers technical assistance...
Trust me, a single day at the MCSO could beat a season of Reno 911 and the deputies aren'st half as smart as the ones on Reno.

9. Is there a chance to get rid of him
You know, I didn't really have a problem with making jail a bit more unpleasant for short term stays, but he just went way too far. I can't understand how he keeps getting elected.

10. The Sun City crowd likes/liked him. I don't know what they're thinking about him these days.
Edited on Wed May-14-08 12:53 AM by lonestarnot
He's been spending RICO monies like a mad hatter and that shouldn't go over well with them. Making jail a bit more unpleasant? WTF? He's allowed killing. Scott Norbert. He's allowed a parapalegic to be maimed into quadrapeligia. He's no damn good. He's cost the county millions in law suits. And he's kidnapping people who have already been victimized by putting them in county vans against their will and driving them to the border on our dime out of his jurisdiction. He has to cross Pima and Pinal counties to get to the border. All while not going after felons who have issued felony warrants waiting to be served. He's a mini bushitler. Prollee tortures people too. The only thing that's good about him is his dog program, but Saban would probably continue that program.

11. Years and years ago, not recently
If somebody had a ten day sentence for some misdemeanor thing, and served it in a tent, I don't have a huge problem with that. But like I said, he went way too far. Humiliating and brutalizing people doesn't do anybody any good. Maybe some of them will wise up.

15. Tent city can be shut down too. They have a prisoner there for animal cruelty.
He left his dog in his vehicle where the temperature exceeded 100 degrees. That was consider by the court to be cruel and inhumane. So the sent him to jail in tent city where the temperatures exceed 100 degrees. Well that is cruel and inhumane treatment for dogs. That being cruel and inhumane treatment for human is a real no brainer.

16. Well, no, not really
People used to live in 100 degree weather, all the time, just 50 years ago. Many still do. Provided there is water and no one is required to work to dehydration, it isn't inhumane.

22. and if it is 100 air temp, inside a car can reach 120-140 in a few minutes
Sadly, idiots also leave their children in closed cars from time to time. Sometimes fatal, sometimes just (:sarcasm:) brain damage.

100 degrees and some shade/water is not really that tough, so long as one is not force to do hard labor at the time.

32. Used to rely on buses in Tucson. Took thermometer with me a few times
Air temp at bus stop at Grant & Craycroft at 3:30 PM on July day: 136 degrees. The guys at the tent city are OK so long as they have water, shade and do not have to work in that heat. Lots of people in Arizona have to deal with conditions like that without being in jail. Lots of POOR people who are out there working.

I am no fan of Joe, but have little sympathy for people in jail dealing with the same conditions as the working poor deal with out of jail. Sorry, air conditioned criminals while working poor frequently outside doing labor just doesn't float my boat. 120 is bad, but with water, shade and rest, it is not as bad as some law abiding citizens have to deal with every summer day.

35. Obviously, you have not live in Maricopa Co. in the summer.
When it is over 110, hardly anyone goes outside, unless to an air-conditioned car!

If it is 115 in the shade, you blister you feet walking the sidewalks. Workers start at first light, or sooner, when it is only 90, and go home at noon.

23. This year, I'm hopeful. Lots of normally uninterested types are pissed off now
because he arrested the editors and staff of our local alternative weekly, the New Times (which was founded in Tempe). Even some local Goldwater republican types were furious over it, but they never liked Joe anyway.

Now, however, there is a very, very strong candidate opposing him--Dan Saban, who switched parties just because he wants to rid the county of the Joe plague. He's a VERY respected lawman and has loads of support and a firm believer in the Constitution--for one thing, he's aware that the prisoners in his charge are awaiting trial and haven't been convicted. Such a radical! :sarcasm:

Even some Republicans candidates are growling that they have to share a ticket with the likes of McCain and Arpaio (I have friends in the media who've told me this, so take it for what it's worth, I've not seen any published report of it).

Wish us luck and if you can, send some money to Saban; he's very promising.*

http://www.sabanforsheriff.com/2008/

BTW, we here in Maricopa County really appreciate those who are aware of Joe's vast abuses as we have an uphill battle out here.

*He ran in a three way race in '04, had the other opponent (an independent) dropped out and the vote not split, Arpaio could be gone already. Siiiigh...
