Want to see something truly vile and sickening?
Diamond Covered Mercedes

It’s rumored that the car is the 38th car owned by a Saudi Arabian “Prince Waleed”

1. And we wonder why gas is so expensive.
It's so assholes can have cars like this.

What a tacky, obscene statement this car makes.

15. He reportedly owns 300 cars....
6 planes, including a custom 747 and an Airbus A380 on order, a 252' yacht with a 170M one on order, a $100,000,000 palace.

He also gives away $100 million a year to charity.

But so what? His money did not come from oil revenues, but rather from his own investments. We aren't paying $3.60/gal for gas because this guy wants a car that is over the top.

Who gives a fuck how this guy spends his money? He can spend it any way he wants. It's his money, for fucks sake.

23. Hey, that's NUTHIN'
Edited on Tue May-13-08 02:05 PM by DFW
A friend of mine runs a security service over here, and his outfit was hired to
do security at the "Millionaire Fair." I asked what the hell THAT was, and he got
me and my daughter security passes so we could get in and find out.

It was the most decadent spectacle you could imagine. It was like a trade fair, but
with stands set up offering things exclusively to the "if you have to ask, you can't
afford it" crowd. One Saudi flew in on his private jet to buy a cell phone from
Switzerland completely encrusted with REAL diamonds. He paid for it with $1.2 million
he brought in a briefcase--cash. Some other guy showed up at the Bugatti stand, ordered
his car, told them all the extras he wanted (must have included hostesses, jet engines
and pedals with foot massage, because the bill ran about $4 million), gave them a check,
and walked out. There were Trump Tower condos in Florida (didn't know there WAS a Trump
Tower in Florida), yachts that looked like they were fitted for 2 year journeys, castle-
like villas in the Toscana and France, I mean you would not BELIEVE this exposition.

The one fun part was that Dutch TV (it was in Amsterdam) came up to me and my daughter,
and asked, in English, if they could interview us. There is no way they could have known
what I do, so I asked what about? They said they were doing a special on rich older men
with significantly younger wives. I said, well, this isn't my wife. They said it was OK
if she was my mistress, which cracked my daughter up. They asked what was so funny, and
I then explained to them (in Dutch, which didn't fit into their program, either) that
this was my daughter. Disappointed, they then marched off, as we didn't "fit" into their
program. Of course, the fact that I couldn't have afforded ANYTHING on display, including
the young "girlfriends" of the other "older men" in the place, never came up in our brief
"interview!" LOL!!!

The amount of money that changed hands at this event probably equaled the yearly GNP of a
modestly sized Latin American nation. Scary stuff.

28. As horrible as I think that car is...
As horrible as I think that car is, I imagine there are billions of people in the world who would look at my best friend's new Volkswagen Bug and think precisely the same thing about him (and us).

We may say the encrusted jewelry is excessive for a car (or, at least I say that...), while those billions of people would say that A/C or an MP3 player are just as excessive for a car on the moral level.

Are we vile and sickening too? Sometimes, when I buy a $35.00 hard back book with full knowledge that the same $35.00 could keep a family eating for another month, I think we are.

It's hard for me to justify my own conspicuous consumptions when the difference is only in degrees.

30. I wouldn't compare the two.
I wouldn't consciously compare the two, but I imagine there are a lot of people who would-- and with good reason.

Look, I'm absolutely NOT trying to induce guilt in anyone, yet I'll readily admit my own. Every time a finger gets pointed at someone for their conspicuous consumptive habits, I see that same finger pointed at me for the same reason...

You know what? You're right. I apologize (past time to edit my last post). I'm feeling a bit too weighted to feel free to post on lighthearted threads.

I was out of line, threw a serious downer on this thread and rained on a parade or two. It's days like this that I should think before I post.

(Sorry.... )
