Cindy McCain's Business Relationship With Charles Keating and Why She Must Disclose Her Finances

Lots of interesting info at this link:

I'll post one snippet:

snip//

In spinning his side of the Keating story, McCain adopted the blanket defense that Keating was a constituent and that he had every right to ask his senators for help. In attending the meetings, McCain said, he simply wanted to make sure that Keating was treated like any other constituent.

Keating was far more than a constituent to McCain, however.

On Oct. 8, 1989, The Republic revealed that McCain's wife and her father had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators.

...When the story broke, McCain did nothing to help himself. When reporters first called him, he was furious. Caught out in the open, the former fighter pilot let go with a barrage of cover fire. Sen. Hothead came out in all his glory.

''You're a liar,''' McCain snapped Sept. 29 when a Republic reporter asked him about business ties between his wife and Keating.

1. Very Nice, Ma'am
Keating, of course, was a mere waste of a human being, but he did have one redeeming moment of honesty in his sordid life: when asked by a reporter if he expected politicians he gave money to, including McCain, would do him favors, he replied, "Yes, I certainly do."

"More Wars! Less Jobs! McCain '08"

15. Keating is still very much alive and still has his filthy little fingers in my state's pie.
I doubt the lout has any intention of retiring--among his more recent exploits is selling a beautiful, old adobe part of the first Catholic diocese building in Phoenix to build a shiny glass and steel monstrosity office building which will house, among others, well--you guessed it. The Catholic diocese...

Her argument of "not being the candidate" holds no water.

to the Hensleys by the Keatings--an introduction that was no accident nor was it at all innocent.

The Hensleys are as filthy rich as the Keating family--and possibly even slimier owing to mob ties from Prohibition.

If the m$m would cover Ms. McCain the Second the way they did Hillary Clinton back in the day, Mccain wouldn't have a prayer.

3. THIS needs to make the rounds somehow, could influence swing voters
I think her tax returns are EXTREMELY relevant to her husband's campaign.

4. wasn't she a staffer who 'accidentaly' destroyed important papers
and wasn't that when she and McCain started their affair.

Wasn't the investigation into her role her excuse that led to her drug problem and theft of drugs?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cindy_mccain
yup found it

In 1989, Cindy McCain became addicted to opioid painkillers such as Percocet and Vicodin,<29> which she initially took to alleviate pain following two spinal surgeries for ruptured discs<30><31> and to ease emotional stress during the Keating Five scandal,<29> which involved her as a bookkeeper who had difficulty finding receipts.<16> The addiction progressed to where she resorted to stealing drugs from her own AVMT.<30> During 1992, Tom Gosinski, the director of government and international affairs for AVMT, discovered her drug theft.<32> Subsequently in 1992, her parents staged an intervention to force her to get help;<16> she told her husband about her problem, attended a drug treatment facility, began outpatient sessions, and ended her three years of active addiction.<29> A hysterectomy in 1993 resolved her back pain.<29><31>

8. The image of Ms. Cindy as a 'staffer' is one I hadn't had before.
She's a piece of work, looks like. A bookkeeper who couldn't find receipts? I imagine she didn't need the money; sounds fishy.

13. She's an opprtunist of the first order. There is NO WAY that a Hensley heir would have to be a
lowly back-office employee with an accounting degree. Were she not useful in that capacity, she'd have had a cushy job in Continental Homes if she wanted to pretend to work.

The Hensleys have some intense political connections (owing to their business during Prohibition years) and are filthy, filthy rich.

Disclaimer on this one: Newsday's link isn't working. :tinfoilhat:

The Senate Ethics Committee will seek a detailed study of a real estate partnership involving developer Charles Keating Jr. and the wife of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), according to Senate sources.

Involved is an investment by Cindy McCain and her father, James Hensley, in a $15-million Phoenix, Ariz., shopping center. The $359,000 investment, made through a Hensley company subsidiary in which Cindy McCain had 41 percent ownership and her father 51 percent, makes them the largest single investors in the project originally financed, built and managed by Keating. The investment by the senator's relatives was made in 1986 after Keating was already in a bitter feud with federal regulators alarmed over his operation of Lincoln Savings and Loan.

Ultimately, the Ethics Committee reprimanded McCain for his involvement in the Keating 5, calling it an exercise in "poor judgment."

But the fact that Cindy McCain's own money was tied-up in business dealings with Keating himself provides an even more compelling reason for her to now publicly reveal her finances and business relationships.

alcohol?

Cindy made her fortune from drugs and alcohol. Someone should ask the preachers and find out what they really wor$hip.

For those who thought HRC was a political opportunist (not me--but we all know that has been said ad nauseum about her) she hasn't got anything on Ms. McCain the Second...

17. Imagine the m$m covering the dirty business of the second Ms. McCain like they did Ms. Clintons.
Her hands have been in the pies of some of the biggest political scandals in this state--names like Keating, Symington, the Ruske (sp?) land deal--her own theft of painkillers from her own charity...

It was fair game in the '90s; we certainly haven't seen a decrease in semsationalistic investigative reporting since then, have we?
