I just may have voted, for my first republican ever, in our town elections!

But I'm not sure. I interviewed the new guy that's running for town planning board.
He was holding a sign outside the precinct. I walked up and started asking him questions.
I didn't know that he was the actual guy running, until he introduced himself. I really
wanted to know if he was a Dem or a Rep but he said he's an independent. So I said,
"Then are you a progressive independent?" He hesitated so I said, "OK, then let me ask
you this... did you ever vote for George Bush?" And he said, "Yeah, but only the first one!"
I said, OK, "then were you for or against invading Iraq?" He said; "I wasn't for war but
now I support HRC because I don't think Obama can beat McLame." Then I laughed out loud! :P
But the other woman running against him is a definite repuke and he said the reason he is
running is because he thinks the present members of the board are jerks and treat people
like crap that come to town meetings and ask questions and he wanted to change that and he
wanted to make it easier for the small business people to be able to get permits etc. than
they can now and he used my friend's new shop as an example. It took him months to be approved.
So, I voted for him. I told him I'd give him a chance. He was also outraged that the town is
allowing McMansions to be built near the golf course but didn't plan for affordable housing
and he thought that was wrong, as do I! And his friend the cop that was standing there saved
me from a bee that was attacking me while we were chatting! :P I hope I chose the right person!

I hope you'll all forgive me! I've never, ever voted for a republican in my life!

1. If the choice were between a RINO and a DINO
You might have soul searching to do.
But I think you did the correct thing,
when doing nothing would have been the 'right'
thing.

5. I really didn't have much of a choice...
I did the best I could and the old farts on that board need a wake up call.

They've been there for years... some of them.

At least I voted! Not many do vote in the town elections, sadly.

Thanks... I did my best. :D

2. I guess you don't forgive me....

But, but he said he was an independent! *sniff* *sniff*

But I did vote for all the rest of the Dems... I think....

They don't actually declare what party they're from on the town ballot, so it's very hard to know!

4. it irks me when they don't put the party on the ballot.
i had to do a LOT of sniffing around to find out who the fuck was who when we voted here.

7. I hate it and I don't understand it either!

Why don't they include that information? It makes no sense to me at all.
I didn't even get a flier or any information about this election except
a sign near the grocery store saying May 5th was town office election day.
That seems like a repuke thing to do. They seem to think less people know,
the better; you know? Pisses me off! :grr:

3. I've voted for a few Republicans, like our Secretary of State.
Lots of Dems voted for him, because he's not a neocon. When we had our incredible squeaker of a gubernatorial election in '04, the neocon powers-that-be were calling him, threatening him, etc., trying to get him to declare the Repuke candidate the winner, even though the Dem candidate had won (granted, it was a small margin, but after two recounts and a court challenge, she still won). He refused to buckle under to them, and that, to me, showed a lot of integrity.

6. You're making me feel better....
I can only trust that this guy is an independent like he says, which means middle of the road to me.
He seemed like a nice enough guy, late 30's/early 40's maybe; intelligent. What else could I do?

8. I look at the candidates, research them, etc. I do vote Dem probably
99% of the time, but sometimes an Indie or a Republican is the better choice. I think our SoS is a pre-neocon type of Republican, and his main aim is to uphold the law, regardless of who it might benefit. And as I said, I admire that, because it shows a hell of a lot of integrity compared to the true neocons.

9. I always go through this whenever I vote locally.....I live
in a red county, so I assume most of the city council are Republics.

Of course, I don't know, since they don't disclose in their campaign material, and I never feel like looking it up.

I just vote for the people who will do the best job for my area.

I do know, I've never consciously punched the name of a person who had an (R) next to them on the ballot.

10. I hear you and this town has a rep of being, sort of...
Edited on Mon May-05-08 04:04 PM by Breeze54
a repub/conservative town with a lot of rednecks. Go figure and it's in MA!
The people who are townies act like 'cowboys', sort of and go out of their
way to let you know YOU weren't born here or didn't grow up in 'THEIR' town. :silly:
I had a few guys in the local 'redneck' bar tell me I wasn't "from this town",
even after living here 8 years because I didn't "grow up here!"

But I grew up 8 miles away!!! :wtf:

Needless to say, I don't go to 'that' bar anymore. They're all morans!
