Gotta have another war, eh George? - Today’s Headlines 5/5/08

United States is drawing up plans to strike Iranian insurgency camp
The US military is drawing up plans for a "surgical strike" against an insurgent training camp inside Iran if Republican Guards continue with attempts to destabilise Iraq, western intelligence sources said last week. One source said the Americans were growing increasingly angry at the involvement of the Guards’ special-operations Quds force inside Iraq, training Shi’ite militias and smuggling weapons into the country. "If the situation in Basra goes back to what it was like before, America is likely to blame Iran and carry out a surgical strike on a militant training camp across the border in Khuzestan," said one source, referring to a frontier province.

3. He already got it
Kyle-Liebermann authorized the Bush administration to label the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization. Again diplomacy urged; action permitted.

5. Yes and no
You see, the resolution was a "sense of the Senate" type of resolution that is supposed to be non-binding. But of course, Bush will use it as a rationale for permission to do what he damned well pleases. His ace in the hole is that an act of the Senate officially declared the Guard a terrorist organization, and the original war against terrorism declaration allows him to use force against terrorists anywhere in the world. Let's not forget that he gets 30 days to pick a fight with anyone becuse of the War Powers Act.

The only thing that can really stop him is resistance from the military, and he is working his way through that with forcing Fallon out.

Scary times, indeed. I really hope this is the same saber-rattling we have seen for years.

6. The failure of the Illegal Invasion & Occupation of Iraq must
be blamed on any other cause instead of the actual one: The Busholini Regime.

7. Thanks --
I remember Biden saying, "who in their right mind would believe anything this President has to say after he's lied to us so many times?" when asked about Kyl-Lieberman.
