** Waxman oversight committee hearings on Lack of Hospital Emergency Surge Capacity **
Today at 10am, cspan1

The Full Committee will hold two days of hearings to examine the current lack of hospital emergency surge capacity on Monday, May 5, at 10 a.m. and Wednesday May 7, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. in 2154 Rayburn House Office Building.

The hearings will focus on the widening mismatch between the growing demand for emergency care and available supply, impact of the Administration’s Medicaid regulations on hospital emergency surge capacity, and the ability of hospitals to respond to a mass casualty event, such as a terrorist attack using conventional explosives or natural disaster.

The following witnesses will testify:

Day 1
Bruce Hoffman, Ph.D., Professor, Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Security Studies Program, Georgetown University

Lisa Kaplowitz, M.D., Deputy Commissioner for Emergency Preparedness and Response, Virginia Department of Health
Roger Lewis, M.D., Ph.D., Department of Emergency Medicine, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center
Jay Wayne Meredith, M.D., Professor and Chairman, Department of General Surgery, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center
Colleen Conway Welsh, Ph.D., Dean, Vanderbilt School of Nursing
Day 2
The Honorable Michael O. Leavitt, Secretary, Department of Health and Human Services
The Honorable Michael Chertoff, Secretary, Department of Homeland Security

5. That is the best I've read it said yet
'its really disgusting how these thugs are still in abuse of power.'

All I can think of is blackmail, what else would it take to make so many dem's lay down and roll over, I don't think the love of money alone could do this.

6. ERs
I want to see testimony on why we even have ERs on "drive-by" status; does this ever happen in 1st world countries with single-payer? They need to hear testimony on why we need to transition to single-payer healthcare.
