I cannot figure what the hell is going on with AAR
Rachel is a star now, and I have mixed feelings about AAR.

5. Except for not listening
What has the RW done to sink AAR? It was a poorly conceived and executed business model in the 1st place, they needed no help in failing.

6. Some of the early money sources were RW... and when the biddness
started to succeed in-spite of themselves, that led to the first financial crisis

the drobnys left, after selling to Green, who is a middle of the road not in radio in person.

On the bright side, the Drobny's learned, and Nova M is actually in the black... and have no RW donors.

At least them are the gems I've gotten whenever former AAR people who were involved, speak about it

Will reach for the tinfoil hat, but the left didn't want a radio network, why? good question (and I have way too many theories) and the RIGHT did all it could to sink the whole concept for propaganda reasons

12. A correction.
Edited on Sat May-03-08 01:46 AM by ConsAreLiars
The Greens were the most recent buyers, not the first. The Drobny's gave up control at the first sale and they were long out of the picture by the ti9me the Greens showed up. The first turned out to be a scammer and swindler who put the network into court and debt.

people can watch "Left of the Dial" for more: http://www.amazon.com/Left-Dial-Mark-Walsh/dp/B000BBOU9K
Or read a couple books by the creator of Air America who later gave his (and Anita's) vision a second life with Nova M):
http://books.google.com/books?id=J8MDAAAACAAJ&dq=Sheldon+Drobny&hl
http://books.google.com/books?id=1JdMAgAACAAJ&dq=Sheldon+Drobny&hl

Later owners were not much more altruistic, and the Greens, intra-party politics aside, are a mixed bag, but still running AAR a a business using the same the kind of capitalistic scum as operatives that would cause Randi Rhodes to tell the to go fuck themselves.

Edit to add stuff)

14. Indeed, it is like a never ending soap opera with no particular plot.
I had to edit my post to add a few details, and forgot the fact that the Greens were minority partners when Randi got pushed beyond her limit and quit. Like a never ending soap opera in which who did what when no longer matters.

Nova M is much the opposite. They, the Drobny's and the activists who mobilized popular support to get Phoenix progressive radio back up after getting put dead by right-wing money and returned Mike Malloy to the air, got Randi back up on most of her stations in 4 days after AAR lost her.

Really amazing work, and a testament to the dedication and talent at Nova M.

I joined as a founder, and if I recall, you also did. I encourage others to sign up. Not to bash AAR, there are some good and valuable programs being carried there, but Nova M is the real thing.

7. AAR has been the target of the right since its inception.
They set out to destroy it because it threatens their monopoly. They've managed to do that pretty well.

9. Huh???
Cheap Channel...a company operated by boooshie's texas ranger buddies are the biggest client of the network...if it weren't for them AAR would have folded a long time ago.

AAR's managed to mismanage themselves just fine...never properly capitalized, never properly promoted and has stagnated over the past year. It's been its own worst enemy...and I suspect will soon be history.

10. CC has dropped most of the stations
our local station went from high ratings to under dirt after it switched to sports

This is a familiar story to many AAR stations.

The model was nuis... and NOVA M has already replaced them as the premier network, with Jones

15. Things are going bizarro with the national AAR causing my local
affiliate to bring in local hosts who are awful or airing sports, sometimes games from local high schools. Also, they put on half an hour of Dennis Miller in the middle of Thom Hartmann today. It's really crazy. I'm looking into getting XM radio. I can't spend all day in front of my computer streaming and my local station has a lousy signal anyway.
