I predict Dick Cheney will have to step down.
Because of the truths that are coming out from the Scooter Libby trial. Libby is talking to save his tail and Cheney is under the thumb in this one. Cheney will be forced to step down soon.

2. Not a chance.
Cheney is the king of "go f*ck yourself". Two years of digging in, dragging his feet, and generally obfucating will be child's play for this criminal.

He ain't goin' nowhere.

34. Yea but he's really going whacko in full public view now
like with Wolf Blitzer today.

Guess it was the followup to Lynn's first strike a while back.

If I could ask Darth Chainey one thing, or advise him on one thing:

Mr. C, do you EVER watch anything other than Fox news? If not you better start.

Dems have the POWER, the power, the power, the power, the subpoena power, more press coverage, a mandate from the public, and just a big change.

:applause:

Don't forget the "I" word may be looming for them all if they leave no other options to Congress and the American people.

(Or the alternate theory is that W et al are planning to convert this DINO (democracy in name only) into the authoritarian regime it has been morphing into for some time, and the plans are in the works)

:scared:

Yeah, and it's a damn good thing. But we cannot derail Bush and Cheney with the teeny majority in the Senate as seen by the crapout with the minimum wage. We, as Democrats, are no longer irrelevant, but we've not yet risen to the point of being a force to be reckoned with.

36. But what if he realizes the advantage of stepping down?
This guy will never win an election, will not stand for one and cannot possibly steal one in a credible fashion. His time wildl be done in 2008, either way. By stepping down for "health" reasons, he can set up the regime's successor of choice with a substantial boost going into the 2008 election.

The Bush mob/Octopus network is a lot bigger than any one man. I easily see Cheney resigning to allow Giuliani or Rice or whoever the mob prefers the incumbent's advantage in 2008. (Lieberman has been suggested, but that's ridiculous - the replacement would have to be someone popular with a chance of winning/credibly stealing the election.) The honeymoon could distract from the regime's current unpopularity. Add a strike on Iran, justified with whatever incident is used to whip up the frenzy in the media, and the regime's current problems can be overcome.

I can even see both Bush and Cheney being shuffled out prior to the election to set up a putative favorite. Given the right crisis, they can keep things going through 2016...

It's very much up to the people to force impeachment on the table.

Unless his health truly fails, he will remain.

41. This is not about public opinion
It is about the consensus within a criminal organization, our own national mafia in government. Cheney is not a personal dictator, any more than any powerful capo is, but the exponent of a mob. The group as a whole will understand their collective interest in maintaining their hold on power past 2008 while continuing some residual illusion of free elections. Stepping down is the way for Cheney to control the executive past his own term (and from beyond the grave once he does die). Stepping down furthermore is the reward for all these decades of criminal activity.

27. Don't you think Ken Lay actually died of embarrassment?
One of those people who had the world bending to his desires and laughing about it suddenly exposed out on a limb with no more friends... or fear... the idea of going to prison.

I think Cheney would just adapt.

I can hope his master takes this faithful servant home soon, but I doubt it.

Only Fitzgerald is not Wolf Blizter and he'll force him to answer or be subject to contempt. Maybe Fitzgerald can get Cheney's blood up and rattle him to the point where he goes berserk and tells the entire courtroom to "f%*# off".

20. Mirroring your apparent seriousness ...
I do think Dick will step down at some point prior to the next election. He would get more pleasure out of helping a "frontrunner" gain some little seniority than would it pain him in regards to his legacy.
We have to remember, they "hate" the Democrats as much as we
"hate" them; anything for the team.

They love the democrats, they steal from us every day... you don't steal what you don't crave.

The democrats don't like being stolen from,
the republicans like to steal.

Libby trial will be the reason he steps down. The man is clearly delusional! Is it dementia? His comments were totally unbelievable. Criticism is hogwash, Rumsfeld did an amazing job and we've been enormously successful in Iraq? Come on!! Does he really think people are buying this crap?

45. My Mythbusters-style prediction:
The odds have changed now that the Democrats control Congress.

10% says Cheney and Libby will be able to weasel out of this completely.
40% says Libby will be the one thrown under the bus like he was appointed to do, despite his protests. Cheney and the other White House crooks won't get touched.
45% says Libby will strike a plea-bargain with Fitzgerald, sing like a canary, and/or Fitzgerald will find evidence that will cause this whole scandal to blow up in Cheney's face, forcing him to resign, maybe even sending him to prison. The entire Bush administration will be paralyzed for the rest of his term.
5% says not only will Cheney be busted, but Bush will get implicated as well and be forced to resign or impeached. Hello, Madame President. One can only hope...
