20. There are probably 100 mountain lions between Gilroy
and San Jose.

Once, when taking a lunch time walk along the Los Gatos creek trail, I saw a mother mountain lion with two cubs. They paid me absolutely no attention at all. I slowly walked back along the path and told the other people to be aware.

38. When you first drive into Gilroy, it smells great
After about 1/2 hour the garlic smell starts to get to you. Phew! I remember tanking up and thinking, "Baby Jeebus, how do these people keep their windows open"?

32. Hey, Gilroy is the garlic capital of the U.S.!
So it's not just a loose cougar, but it may have really deadly breath. ;-)

Besides, what if it enters a prez candidate's church and says something outrageous from the pulpit -- then we'll never hear the end of it. ;-)

25. Check this
http://www.sanluisobispo.com/breakingnews/story/343746.html

Happened on Saturday in Atascadero about 100 miles south of Gilroy.

Right in the post office parking lot.

We've had several lion sightings in populated areas of SLO county in the past couple years.

One happened on the beach adjacent to a busy campsite.

30. California law is that if somebody sees it, it's got to be killed,
Edited on Fri May-02-08 02:29 PM by spenbax
whether it's a mountain lion, bobcat, bear, even the shark that killed that man - got to hunt it down and kill it. Doesn't matter that the animal is doing what animals do. If somebody sees it, it's got to be killed.

44. I was sort of kidding, but not really. They are using a helicoptor
right now to hunt down that shark; I've watched 14 cops in Monrovia (small town) on a flatbed truck ALL fire at a bear that wandered down from the mountains and they all hit it (very sad to watch). I had an animal officer come to my house to pick up 5 very tiny oppossums and when I asked what they would do with them he said they would kill them. I told him to leave them alone and I would take care of it - believe it or not I found an 80 yr old woman within 5 blocks of my house who takes in baby oppossums and when they're old enough she releases them. Thank God for the internet. I doubt that I will ever call animal control again no matter what I find in my yard, except I've had a strange feeling I'm going to look out my kitchen window and see a python coming down my tree - then I will call them again.

34. Can we get a good car chase going?
I mean that is what this story needs to have legs. Well, ok, so it already has 4 legs and a tail and probably some pretty nice canines as well, but damnit, we need a car chase. A slow car chase so that the news chopper can keep up with the suspect who was probably feeding the mountain lion and enticing it into Gilroy.

35. Aren't mountain lions supposed to be on the loose?
I mean unless they are in zoos I kind of thought they were supposed to roam freely. I don't see many mountain lions being tied to a leash when they are in the wild.

It's very sad, for the cougar who is being pushed from his home and food sources, and the poor goats. :-(
