I had the pleasure of meeting Congressman Rob Andrews at a luncheon yesterday. For those who don't know, he's running against 84-year old DINO Senator Frank Lautenberg in the Democratic primary in June.
I couldn't believe the candor with which he addressed the issues. The first thing he brought up was the war, saying that he's for full withdrawal, and will actively fight any attempt to extend or further fund anything but a withdrawal. He admitted to voting for the war in 2002, but has since repudiated that decision, and said it's time to correct that mistake.
As for what to do with the 10B a month we're spending in Iraq? Priority 1 is single payer health care. Priority 2 is rebuilding our infrastructure.
On the tax cut issue, he wants to retain Bush's tax cuts except for those on the top 5% of earners. He called himself the product of the middle class lifestyle, and said that we need to rebuild our middle class, instead of becoming even more polarized into very rich and very poor.
Finally, when the floor was open for questions, I brought up the Supreme Court. I asked, point blank, if the worst case scenario were to occur and an unqualified right-wing idealogue were to be appointed by a President McCain, would he filibuster? He said, point-blank, "yes." He said that he would have filibustered Roberts and Alito, and would stand on the floor of the Senate alone all night if he had to.
I admire his candor and his stands on the issues. If you agree with me, go and give him some love at his site,
