NY cardinal criticizes Rudy Giuliani for taking Communion during papal visit

Rudy Giuliani should not have received Holy Communion during the pope's visit because the former presidential candidate supports abortion rights, New York Cardinal Edward Egan said Monday.

Egan says he had "an understanding" with Giuliani that he is not to receive the Eucharist. The Catholic Church teaches "that abortion is a grave offense against the will of God," Egan said.

The cardinal said Monday that Giuliani broke that understanding when he received the Eucharist during Pope Benedict XVI's visit earlier this month. He received Communion during the April 19 service from one of the many clergymen who offered the sacrament.

<<<<<snip>>>>

Egan's statement does not address the fact that Giuliani is on his third marriage. Catholics who divorce and remarry without getting an annulment from the church cannot receive Communion.

What fucking hypocrisy!! When I first saw the title I figured it was because Giuliani has been divorced twice which was suppose to be a major no-no in the church and a ban from communion.

Egan says he will be seeking a meeting with Giuliani "to insist that he abide by our understanding."

1. What do you expect, really? Alinsky said never base discussions with bishops on theology because
they don't care about theology or principles, they care about wealth and power.

2. At least Guliani wasn't raping a little boy and then proceeding to
cover up the rape. The cardinal needs to shut up or go walk in front of a speeding bus. As an ex-catholic, I'm amazed that these catholic clowns like the pope and cardinals actually still think they have an ounce of moral authority. They are nothing but a brotherhood of perverts and their enablers.

5. My first thought as well...and I was astonished, since it doesn't seem
to mean much these days. The divorce issue, I think, went away as a big issue for Catholics and "evangelicals" when Ray-gun was pResident. I know he wasn't Catholic (he really wasn't ANYTHING, although the rabid far Reich wing nuts loved him). Now if Ray-gun had been the DEMOCRATIC nominee, the divorce would have been a big issue. But for a reThuglican?? All is forgiven.

6. It's okay that 9iu11ani is a serial adulterer and fornicator who cost thousands of lives...
because he set-up his "command post" to be in a convenient location for a secret fuck-pad. THAT the "church" will forgive.

However, it's the millions of tiny babies that live in our sperm that the "church" really cares about.

7. It's OK for the church hierarchy to practice "Cafeteria Catholicism"...
but not us lay rabble, apparently.
