5. Austrian cellar case man admits abduction and incest

A 73-year-old Austrian today confessed to imprisoning, beating and sexually abusing his daughter in a windowless cellar for 24 years, during which time he fathered her seven children.

Josef Fritzl admitted forcing his daughter Elisabeth into the basement of the family's home in Amstetten, north-west Austria, on August 24 1984, when she was 18.

Franz Pölzer, the head of the criminal investigations unit in the province of Lower Austria, said Fritzl had admitted abduction, incest and abuse.

Holding up a picture of the 73-year-old, he told a press conference: "This man led a double life for 24 years. He deceived everybody. He deceived his wife and the legal system."

After initially denying the crimes, Fritzl later admitted locking up his daughter, now aged 42, beating and sexually abusing her and fathering her children, Pölzer said.

"Even the most experienced members of the criminal police found it shocking," he added.

Three of the seven children never saw sunlight.

I have to say though, the wife didn't notice 7 kids running around? The daughter couldn't fine her way to freedom in 24 years? The kids were home birthed, never saw a doctor/dentist/teacher?

Supposedly the daughter that "ran away to join a cult" was giving the children up to her parents for "adoption".

Three kids were in the dungeon, not adopted.

And one child (from a pair of twins) died after home birth, and was thrown into the incinerator.

As far as escape goes, the only exit was one that he had on keypad control.

If you do not want to read about pure evil, it's best not to find out too much about this story.

I do not support the death penalty at all, for several reasons, its just in some cases I have to wonder if I'm right(remember it's good to question your own motives) That is why I used the evil-frown.
Although I'm not sure how helpful I am?

She never had a chance. How WILL she find peace of mind now, after living so long without it?

I'm sure she never even had a childhood, with him right there breathing down her neck from the first. Poor, poor woman, poor lost childhood. She was destroyed, a sacrifice to his astonishing ugliness.

What would you imagine is the better sentence: isolation, no chance to ever speak to anyone ever again, or to mix with the general population in prison, to be the target of their horror, and disgust? I can't begin to guess.

Between this and FLDS, I just can't seem to understand people anymore. Maybe I couldn't understand people prior to this, but I thought that could-- at least somewhat.

But I simply cannot put myself into the mindset to understand what it would take mentally/emotionally/spiritually to be capable of something like this.

How does a man justify doing something like this to himself day after day, for years at a time.

How could middle aged men justify to themselves that it's "perfectly natural and our 'God given' right" to rape thirteen and fourteen year old girls?

My Lord-- what this poor girl in Austria must have endured. And what those poor girls in El Dorado must have endured.

It's heartbreaking. It's just heartbreaking....

23. This is the second of these stories to come out of Austria in a year.

The Germans have more jokes about the Austrians than Americans have about
Italians and Poles combined, but there are some real horror stories to come
out of there, too (Hitler was Austrian, don't forget).

What drives someone to this level of depravity it impossible for a rational
person to fathom. Guys like this are beyond sick. They are damaged.
