"The highest disapproval rating of any president in the 70-year history of the Gallup Poll"

A new record:

President Bush has set a record he'd presumably prefer to avoid: the highest disapproval rating of any president in the 70-year history of the Gallup Poll.

In a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Friday through Sunday, 28% of Americans approve of the job Bush is doing; 69% disapprove. The approval rating matches the low point of his presidency, and the disapproval sets a new high for any president since Franklin Roosevelt.

The previous record of 67% was reached by Harry Truman in January 1952, when the United States was enmeshed in the Korean War.

Bush's rating has worsened amid "collapsing optimism about the economy," says Charles Franklin, a political scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who studies presidential approval. Record gas prices and a wave of home foreclosures have fueled voter angst.

6. Just hang in there as he will be
the major players in all this carnage will never be able to sleep well the rest of their lives and many of them will be incarcerated. I believe in America so therefore I truly believe in this that I type.

12. But credit Ratzi with one thing...
He decided he'd rather dine in his hotel room than attend Chimpy's state dinner held in his honor.

Give him that much.

21. Higher than Nixon. The record is for highest DISapproval ...
... and he's at the highest disapproval in the history of the poll, even higher than Truman in 1952, during the Korean War. It should be noted that Bush also holds the record for the highest approval rating, as well, at 90% immediately following 9/11 -- making his drop that much more historic, a record that may never be broken.
Bush also holds the record for the other extreme: the highest approval rating of any president in Gallup's history. In September 2001, in the days after the 9/11 attacks, Bush's approval spiked to 90 percent.

In another record, the percentage of Americans who say the invasion of Iraq was a mistake reached a new high, 63 percent,
    in the latest poll.

Is there someone who actually thinks that bush will become more popular as the economy tanks, prices go through the roof, and the endless war in Iraq drags on and on and on? Actually, yes there is:

A Bush Boost? GOP Banks on It
(by Paul Bedard, US News & World Report, January 10, 2008)

He's a poll cellar-dweller whom even GOP presidential candidates sneer at, but George W. Bush and some congressional backers see happy days for the prez this year. His fans have dubbed it his "legacy year," when they hope to lock in his achievements on the domestic front. Among the items Bush's GOP congressional allies want to work on this month: continuing his tax cuts and extending the controversial No Child Left Behind Act. As for the war, they say, the news has been good, and Bushies believe that their guy will eventually get credit for opening the war on terrorism. But more immediately, they are predicting a remarkable poll shift to about 45 percent favorable by the time he leaves office next year.

18. why don't they just arrest him for being a "domestic enemy"
hasn't he done enough crap to the country. Not on the list of priorities for those who hold office, the power they have is too overwhelming and unyielding for them to shed, and WE THE PEOPLE have to pay in more ways than one for their crimes.

22. All though they're both in the top four for highest disapproval rating,
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 11:05 AM by Uncle Joe
it seems the son outdid the father. My stomach rose just as in a roller coaster from reading the drop of their highest approval ratings to their lowest.

One thing about Truman, I believe he was hurt the most from the Korean War but on the other hand, at least he acknowledged the President's ultimate responsibility for the state of affairs. With Bush the Least, the only place the bucks ever stop are in the coffers of his oil and military industrial complex enablers.

26. the hell with voter angst,
everything this maladministration has touched from day one has been a clusterfuk. Remember how he was going out the door the day before 9/11/01 because he was the vacationingest mother to live in the whitehouse since raygun and the press was on to him.
