Officials Say Landing Authorized As Part Of Pilot Training

UPDATED: 11:09 am EDT April 21, 2008

LONDON -- British officials are confirming that Prince William landed an air force helicopter in his girlfriend Kate Middleton's parent's backyard during a training flight.

A statement from Britain's Defence Ministry on Sunday said the landing on the Middleton family farm was planned and authorized as part of the prince's Royal Air Force pilot training. However, the British media is calling the exercise wasteful at a time when the military is stretched by wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The statement said the helicopter was on the ground for 20 seconds, and that no one got on or off.

News of the landing on the Middletons' farm comes as the air force faces criticism for allowing William to fly a Chinook helicopter from London to the Isle of Wight to attend a bachelor party for his cousin.

4. Show off.
This is exactly why in our modern age there should be no royals, kings, little lords, etc. They waste the tax payer dollars for play like this.

Send him to real war like the royals of old. Today the royals sit on their buns and wave once in awhile. They don't lead the troops to war and aren't in danger themselves.

13. yeah that 70p a year per person is unbearable
Please, I'd rather have tax money go to this than maintaining a military presence in places it doesn't belong.

8. Wow, that's gotta increase the chance for nookie
I've always dreamed of being a prince and landing my helicopter on my girlfriend's lawn. And the girlfriend's parents can't object - 'cause you're the prince and you have the persmission of the country's military.

That's the ultimate cool.

9. Looks like good training to me
You gotta teach 'em to land on tactical landing zones SOMEHOW, right?

Okay, taking a Chinook to his cousin's bachelor party's right out...you know that's not the only helicopter the guy knows how to fly, so couldn't he have taken something that doesn't need five acres to land?
