How google works on DU...ok to be open about this??
Edited on Mon Apr-14-08 09:51 PM by Stuart G
Google ads are here on DU. (I think)..So what is the deal?

Google knows what you are clicking on...say try clicking on this thread that I started.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3157476

then, Google (and this is very important)... not knowing or caring who or what you are ...prepares an ad, for something, someone interested in that topic..would like..that the ad is appropriate for the viewer..

Evidently this did not work, it worked before...(perhaps it works when the person is not logged in, or when the thread is at the top of the forum...who knows?

..ok, I not right about everything,, I admit it..,disregard..

(but wait................I logged out, went back to this post..and guess what I saw, when it was at the top of the forum...
an ad, to get more views per ad...as someone said,,,,I kid you not,,,and when I logged back in, that ad was gone..oh well..Fuck me..).

2. There's a way we can block the ads, and I'm fixing to find out how.
Because that meat ad pops up IN MY FACE every time I click on a page.

5. I just turned off the ads --
go to Options then Preferences and it'll give you the choice to block the Google ads. You have to be a donor, but you are, so you're golden.

I'm gonna go see if it worked! :7

but that bloody meat ad is still there. Must not be a google ad.

I don't care whose ad it is or what their cause is... they're pissing me off
with their hamfisted (pun intended) ad. They're substituting shock value
for a real idea or message and it is a complete turn-off. It makes me want
to puke and if that's their intention.. fuck them.

14. Yeah -- not a Google ad.
I couldn't believe it when I saw it pop up again.

I totally support what they're doing, but I don't like the hamfisted shock approach, either. It reminds me of some anti-abortion group a while back that got busted for putting pictures of aborted fetuses in peoples' mailboxes. Not necessary.

13. Firefox.
Adblock Plus and make sure you go to the subscriptions page, load Easy List and Easy Element, and several of the others.

NoScript.

Never see an ad again.
