Just an incredibly stupid one from a member of a party with a problem of being seen as racists.

24. I can see why they might make the comparison
Tiger woods is seen a s a phenom in Golf. Black or not, he is a great golfer who is seen as having a natural talent for the game.

Similar comparisons have been made of Obama.

Of course, the Tiger Woods is also seen as the Black guy who broke the color barrier in Golf. And only an idiot would forget that.

I don't know what's going on in the speaker's heart. I don't accuse others of being bigots with more proof. I can see how a perfect world this comment could be made without it being racist.

Of course we don't live in a perfect world. There is racism in this country and the Republicans are seen as having a problem with it.

When something is said, it's not just the speaker involved but the listener as well. I was drawing the difference.

36. It was thinly veiled racism at best
As KO pointed out, it couldn't be this jackass thought a good way to stump for McCain would be to compare his rival Obama to a well-respected, world class sportsman, could it?

25. The remark was so elementry....
Does he mean Tiger Woods one of the most intellectual golf players of all time?

Does he mean Tiger Woods that has drawn fans from all walks of life?

Or does he mean you have your "black man" and they will stick with the "white" man.

Obviously it was the 3rd choice...Racist and bigoted. McCain stood by and said nothing.

26. "they all look alike"
that's the mentality. All black men look alike so it's OK to lump them all together. Tiger Woods, Barack Obama, Will Smith...

That is racist.

started by one of the former members of SHRUB"S ADMIN...Ari fleischer possibly. I would have to look it up.

Yes, they are vets. Vets being paid to promote the war and write pro-war editorials to put in papers unaware of their political ties.

They were created to counter vote vets. It's classic astro turfing.

32. Tiger has described Obama as being "impressive" and "inspiring"
(link). "I've seen him speak. He's extremely articulate, very thoughtful." Hmm, didn't Joe Biden get in trouble for saying that?

30. Maybe he was trying to make Obama look frivolous
Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 10:44 PM by rocknation
by comparing him to someone who's established himself in a "recreational" field.

Nah...that would require a thought process.

Since he mentioned "the audacity of hope" as well as Tiger, he probably confused them because they look alike to him.

39. I think what he was trying to say, considering the line before the Woods comment,
is that while some people admire athletes and celebrities, his kids will admire 'people of principle' like McCain. The problems with his statement are that he assumes McCain is truly admirable, and he assumes Woods is not (he makes the mistake of assuming that sports heroes are automatically less deserving).

I'm not convinced that race necessarily has anything to do with it - Woods is certainly well-known enough to be a generic example of a pop-culture hero. I'd need to see it in context of other things this guy has said before I make that conclusion...
