Glenn Greenwald's highlighted a rather exceptional interview on Charlie Rose, from March 20th, the 5th anniversary of Bush's Iraq war. Charlie interviews Ali Fadhil (a Iraqi journalist) and Sinan Antoon (an Iraqi professor), both currently living in the U.S.
If you have 17 minutes to spare, it really is a must see/hear. Check it out at
Glenn Greenwald's blog on Salon.comThe whole interview is worthwhile, but the following was the most striking exchange, to me...
(from 14:45, of 16:45 embedded clip)
ROSE: "Would you like for the United States military.... Sen. Barack's (sic) proposal is that we make a date certain (sic), within 16 months, withdraw. Is that a wise policy in your judgment?"
ALI FADHIL: "Definitely. Definitely. We..."
ROSE: "Just *get out of Iraq*..."
ALI FADHIL"We need..."
ROSE: "... in some kind of ordered way."
ALI FADHIL: "You... you are... the Americans in Iraq are like a virus, like a disease. And, and... for us, we need to get rid of the Americans because the Americans just don't know what they are doing. They're... anything they do -- probably even good intentions -- is bad, for us. Everything they do. Everything! There's nothing they are doing is right.
"And that's what... what's gonna happen.. it's just prolonging the despair of the Iraqis -- who are suffering more and more every day. We need, you know, to start the solution!"
