CNN.Com - Woman accused of using infant as a down payment on a car....
<snip>PUEBLO, Colorado (AP) -- Three people were arrested on charges of swapping a 5-month-old boy for a down payment on a used Dodge Intrepid and cash, police said Tuesday.

Nicole Uribe, 23, is accused of trading the baby to Jose-Juan Lerma, 47, and his wife, Irene, 27, in exchange for the down payment and an unspecified amount of cash.

All were arrested on suspicion of felony trafficking in children and were being held at the Pueblo jail under $50,000 bail each.<snip>

Nice. Colorado is fighting Florida for home of the most wackos.

3. Now I really feel like I'm living in Elvis Costello's world...
A pistol was still smoking, a man lay on the floor.
Mister Oswald said he had an understanding with the law.
He said he heard about a woman living in the USA.
She traded in her baby on a brand new Chevrolet.
Let's talk about the future now we've put the past away.

Turn up the TV. No one listening will suspect,
even your mother won't detect it,
no your father won't know.
they think that I've got no respect
but everything means less than zero.
Hey, ooh hey, hey, ooh hey.

Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 09:23 AM by michaelwb
Sure a first born child, but I'm betting it wasn't.

Of course, inflation is killing the business.

I tried to trade my immortal soul for Zagnut bar at the local 7-11 and they said no.

8. Why Do You People Hate Economic Freedom?
These people were simply taking advantage of our economic freedoms. They were living the American Dream - which you members of the Democrat Party are always trying to take from us.

These are the freedoms the terrorists also want to take away. Thus, the Democrat Party is terrorists. QED.

(Oh, OK :sarcasm:)

16. I need a break now and then from wanting to cry, scream and be depressed about the world.
It is awful though I agree to joke about a baby being sold for a car. What a sad sad state of affairs.

18. At least we could say that Juan and Irene want a child
Maybe the baby is better off with them than with Nicole?

Though the legal irregularities are astounding.

Child will go into foster care anyway, so if Juan and Irene qualify, maybe they can provide a decent home.

19. I'm amazed that some people place so little value on their children
Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 03:57 PM by notadmblnd
I was in the store earlier today and two little boys (maybe 2 & 3)were running around several aisles away from their mother. They were running and getting in other peoples way, but that isn't what really bothered me. It was that the mother was totally self absorbed in the hair aisle looking at products. I found my way over to the woman and asked her if they were her babies running lose, when she replied yes, I said to her do you not realize that children come up missing every day? She looked at me like I was crazy and just said to me, "ok". I walked away shaking my head.
