Why isn't anyone talking about this? A white guy inspired Wright
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/21/meet-the-white-man-who-_n_92793.html

Meet the man who inspired Reverend Jeremiah Wright's now famous tirade about America's foreign policy inciting the terrorist attacks of September 11.

His name is Ambassador Edward Peck. And he is a retired, white, career U.S. diplomat who served 32-years in the U.S. Foreign Service and was chief of the U.S. mission to Iraq under Jimmy Carter -- hardly the black-rage image with which Wright has been stigmatized.

In fact, when Wright took the pulpit to give his post-9/11 address -- which has since become boiled down to a five second sound bite about "America's chickens coming home to roost" -- he prefaced his remarks as a "faith footnote," an indication that he was deviating from his sermon.

"I heard Ambassador Peck on an interview yesterday," Wright declared. "He was on Fox News. This is a white man and he was upsetting the Fox News commentators to no end. He pointed out, a white man, an ambassador, that what Malcolm X said when he got silenced by Elijah Muhammad was in fact true: America's chickens are coming home to roost."

1. Credit to Malcolm X - one of my heroes
whether Rev Wright wants to acknowledge him or not.

Cop out from Wright - imho

6. Wright did give props to Malcolm, and the crowd was with it all the way. A great sermon, actually.
Here is the longer version, that gives at least a taste of the flow of that sermon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOdlnzkeoyQ

It goes from the famous psalm of conquered Israelites with feelings of revenge towards their Babylonian captors (Happy are those who dash YOUR children apon the rocks) and the "faith footnote" (brilliant!) that has the history of the US injustice fromn our beginnings, the remark by Peck is alluded to (not just black leaders see blowback as a reality) and Malcolm, (EVERYBODY is familiar with the Chickens/roost meme!) end faith footnote...then makes the powerful point that NOW is the time for US ALL to look closely at our OWN SOULS for guidance, rather than lash out in revenge and judgment against those who had attacked us...lest we too, like the Israelites, go beyond just seeking revenge on "soldiers" --- but also on the INNOCENTS.

THAT is undeniably powerful truth. not racist, not "blaming Americans" or any of that - but rather calling us to self reflection so that we AVOID hate and revenge.

I am a non-theist, but that little excerpt showed me the measure of Rev. wright as a man worthy of respect.

2. Why isn't anyone talking about this?
Pointing out that Wright was only quoting a white guy doesnt serve to illustrate the stereotype of the angry black man.

3. You're probably right - the fact that he was an ambassador under
Carter doesn't exactly scream angry black man either. Sigh....

5. K&R #4. It's a Lib trait to look inward, self-criticize, while wingnuts blame others
That said, add him to the list of curmudgeons, cranks, and critics at Jimmy CARTER's breast:

* Tweety - saboteur of all Dems - if he SUPPORTS a Dem, it's to set 'em up for failure later

* David RUBENSTEIN - co-founder of The Carlyle Group

* Pat CADDELL - CARTER's "KKKarl" credited for CARTER's win, and has never had another win EVER (including the New Coke) - bitter critic of all Dems

7. The MSM sucks
I'm listening to the replay of Meet The Press and that asshole Tim Russert just replayed the edited Rev. Wright sermon in which he quoted Ambassador Peck.

Come on. It's been nearly a week since Obama made his speech and he won't play the "real" sermon? Russert is race baiting the conservative commentators to keep it in the news.

9. Who cares who inspired Rev. Wright. Hate is hate.
Doesn't matter who inspired the sermons.
