Today, the FBI announced a major new initiative to catch bank robbers. By leaving a trail of $20 bills leading to the propped-open front doors of the ordinarily closed first national bank branch in Podunk, the FBI was able to 'clean the streets of Podunk's most hardened criminals'.
The spokesman for the agency, Dewey Cheatham said "We've been criticized for excessive zeal in similar small towns across america, but Podunk's 1,350 residents are breathing a sigh of relief that we've taken the 1,345 worst offenders from their midst."
It was difficult to find any residents of Podunk to comment on the police action except for Martin Smelworth, local night watchman who asked us if we'd seen his family. "I came home from work guarding the lumberyard and everyone was gone!"
Critics of the program described it as entrapment. Mary Worth, spokesperson for the ACLU noted that the trail of $20 bills led to the door of each residence in town. FBI agents would knock on suspect's door, and hide in nearby bushes.
