Okay, what's IBTL?

I've been on DU for quite a while, but I think this is the first time I've seen this one. It was repeated by several posters in a thread they all knew was about to be locked, and the mod used it when locking the thread.

So if a mod locks this thread, I hope he or she will at least include an explanation of that initialism!

6. DU uses a heavy hand in moderation.

Some forums sites do, some don't. I personally prefer a less heavy hand.

That thread I posted was about the heavy hand, and it got locked... by the heavy hand. :-) Not exactly a huge surprise of course.

I belong to a forum that has 17,000 members at Tribe.net and that moderator is very absentee. He rarely ever logs in unless we start emailing him about destructive users. That forum can at times feel much more wild west than DU does. I guess I like that level of autonomy.

On DU I feel as though a lot of valid and good types of discussion are moderated out of existence through locking and deleting mechanisms. The thread I had yesterday was a humor thread and meant to be snarky. That apparently has no room on DU.
