8. Strangely,
I believe you're right.

Well, I don't know about "we," but this economy has had it. It's sorta like watching a dying critter convulse with a bunch of people cheering it on as it "comes back to life."

24. It's interesting that when fear..
(of a collapsing market) drives people out of stocks it's bad and we should calm down and shut up, but when fear (of a collapsing dollar) pushes people back into stocks, it's all good.

6. SHOP, AMERICA! SHOP TIL YOU DROP!!
Spend - spend - spend...it is the ANSWER TO OUR PROBLEMS.

Our pResident has told us so.

Forget the deficit, forget the war, forget the dead troops.

Just get out there and shop, run up those charge cards. It's good for you, good for America, and it will prevent a recession.

What's that? You have no credit left? Your house has two mortgages on it already? The cost of gas, prescription medicine, and food has you strapped for cash? Well then, you're just a deadbeat so you don't count. Bush only wants to protect WEALTHY Americans. You are a burden to the system. Why do you hate America? :sarcasm:

9. Well, all is well today anyway...
So far today. Lehman announced profits were down 57%. Apparently the traders on the floor haven't caught the announcement. Or have and are just waiting to see how high they can push their stocks before selling them and showing a little profit for the day.

The one thing that the Federal Reserve cannot "fix" is the devaluation of the dollar. And that in the end is probably what will cause the collapse of our economy.

13. That Lehman announcement had been priced in for weeks.
The fact it wasn't shockingly awful was enough considering how people were already pissing on their grave even though it hadn't been filled yet.

18. Exactly. Everyone is watching the shining object over here (the market)
but no one is watching the real problem. The dollar.

As long as the interest rates continue to be cut, the dollar will drop and inflation will go up.

With this latest fix, I expect the dollar to fall to at least 1.65 against the Euro.

And with the dollar dropping the price of oil and gas at the pump goes up.

That means food goes up.

But the brainiacs in washington, only like bright shiny objects.

22. Before you shit all over the US
check out the GDP and PPP this country has. We are 4 times larger than the nearest economy.

No manufacturing of textile will return. Hopefully we can grow high tech manufacturing and R&D.

19. Skies Are Blue, and The Rose Colored World is intact
Now we can all get back to important stuff. College Basketball Brackets, the fake Political theater that is our Primaries, Britney and Mel, American Idol, Spitzer's Hookers, and Spring Training.

And I'm sure the Smug Brigade will be on things soon, telling us how they proudly bought in at the bottom again, and claiming victory over us doom and gloomers who are so pissed off and fuming that we don't get to see an economic collapse.

Remember, recessions only happen if we wish it upon ourselves.

Meanwhile reality will continue to lumber forward unabated.

What really got accomplished today. A bunch of feel-good nonsense that puts the sheep back to sleep for another week or two.

And to put things in perspective, The Fed financed about $300 billion for this fake rally, (about what the public puts in mutual funds in a peak year) and have managed to claw all the way back to the highs of last week.

Today means absolutely zero. Except that your currency is probably now worth less than monopoly money.

20. I wish everything was fixed and okay
The dollar keeps dropping and getting weaker. I'll bet the real worth of the Stock Market is misleading because of the falling dollar. We don't manufacture much in this country anymore. Today I paid almost $100 for a car battery and that same battery would have cost me about $72 two years ago. Bread costs $4.50 a loaf at my supermarket and gas is nearly $3.60 in my neighborhood for a gallon of regular. Today some of the airlines said they were cutting back on the number of flights because of the cost of jet fuel. General Motors is sliding. Lehman Brothers may become the next Bear Stearns.

I really wish things were great. I don't like to hear bad economic news, even if it reflects badly on Republicans. I wish everything was going great because the slowing economy is really hitting close to home.
