IT'S THE WAR!! IT'S THE WAR!! DON'T BE DISTRACTED: IT'S THE WAR!!
Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 10:54 PM by islandmkl
This illegal war, defined as such more by the lack of Congressional oversight and control than by the Bush Administrations' ignoring of American and international laws, is at the root of our current economic crisis. Not single-handedly, though it has raided our Treasury of Billion$ and written IOU's for future generations to bear. The toll in human sacrifice, both American and Iraqi, is beyond determination; the future costs, in both money and human lives, bear no sign of dissipating.

Where does this singular cause find itself so intertwined in our current economic crisis?

It's not just the money. It's the attitude; the outright circumventing of laws; the direct violations of executive powers; the total manipulation of a 'favorable' Congress for so many years; the atmosphere of fear spread far and wide on a regular, if not daily basis; the total lack of regard for the Constitution of the United States of America, all the while propagandizing 'patriotism'; the establishment of a system to empower and enrich the 'privileged' as not seen in our society for more than 100 years, a system rife with complicit endowment from 'both sides of the aisle'; the total profitization of all that war can bring to an economy WHEN THE PEOPLE ALLOW WAR.

WHEN THE PEOPLE ALLOW WAR, they allow most anything else. We are raped by the gasoline companies through an 'Energy Plan' they devised with the Vice-President; we see Wall Street playing fast and loose with 'unregulated' securities backed by worthless collateral; we see BILLION$ injected into the 'economy' OVERNIGHT to prevent major 'central bank' failures, all issued 'on credit', the credit of the American people; we see jobs sent overseas to make mega-corporations their mega-profits, while eroding American consumer buying power; we see that same buying power reduced in tandem by the falling dollar and the subsequent rise in prices for energy and food; we see the middle and poorer segments of our society forced more and more to struggle not just to get by, but struggle to see any light at the end of the tunnel, any sign that things can, WILL turn around.

IT'S THE WAR...when we allowed this war to proceed, we completely opened Pandora's Box. There is no saving of the economy...there is no 'lowering' of energy & food prices...there are no jobs coming back to America...there is no financial salvation for the working person...

THERE IS ONLY WAR...war makes profit for the profiteers who promote it, under whatever guise. WAR DESTROYS ALL IT TOUCHES, ON ANY FRONT.

WE ALLOW WAR, THIS ILLEGAL WAR, THIS WAR BASED ON KNOWN LIES, THIS WAR TO MAKE THE PEOPLE WHO LED US INTO THIS WAR RICH, THIS WAR THAT ENTWINED HONEST PEOPLE IN ITS LIES TO RENDER THEM POWERLESS TO REFUTE THE LIES, THIS WAR THAT IS KILLING NOT ONLY GOOD AMERICANS, GOOD IRAQIS, GOOD PEOPLE...

THIS WAR IS KILLING AMERICA...

IT'S THE WAR.

1. War Is Never A Bargain
People will shop and complain over the rising prices but how many really think about the cost of war. Many will admit the human toll is very costly but do they realize we have to keep replacing the vehicles, the ammo, the normal supplies. This goes on every day and the bill keeps getting higher. The spenders of this war think there is an unlimited amount of cash and that they can get involved in even more wars without a thought of the cost back home. Every program we have for the hungry, the poor, the roads, everything inbetween is in jeopardy because there is an invisable siphon sucking those dollars overseas. What will it take for many to make the connection? Will it be when Social Security checks are "late" because there is no money in the pot? Will it be when our holes in the roads turn into craters? Will it be when there are more tent cities then normal housing? Will it be when every city has a soup kitchen with lines snaking around the block?
People need to see that any war is a costly affair which sucks the lifeblood out of many of the brave troops but also continues to drain the resources at home for this generation and many more generations of the future.

And it is in ending the war we can save the country not only money, but by prosecuting the war profiteers and complicit corporate media we can regain some credibility. The entire pentagon budget needs to be cut drastically. Rumsfeld announced on 9/10/01 that they could not account for TRILLIONS! We have no right to dominate the world and we have no moral high ground.

3. With all this talk of the state of the economy imagine what we could do with all the extra money
if we just ended this war.

20. DU is nothing but hopeful.
And I know exactly what you mean. I wouldn't have made it through the 2004 election without the comfort I found on DU. There were a couple of forums, one for folks seeking solace, another for angry folks to vent. I chose the former. Glad that you found us and feel free to ask anything, anytime. DU is always here, day or night, and in good times and bad. I'm sure hoping for a better tomorrow, as well. We all are...:grouphug:

6. IT'S THE CLASS WAR
The illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq was just one of the more obvious thefts of workers' wealth by the wealthy.

18. K&R. It's the war, stupid! *sigh*
I felt physically ill during "shock and awe," never though that this could possibly happen. But it's still going on, five years later, and has become just "background noise," to quote Bill Maher. ;(
