An open letter to all who participate in the protest movement.
Last weekend there were protests worldwide against Emperor Bush's war. Many of you proudly posted pictures here so we know it took place. Millions of people took to the streets to express their outrage at the evil being done by Bush and his cabal. In the United States, the media completely ignored them. 24 hours after these good souls took to the streets, the only people who know about it are the ones who were there. Oh, sure, a few of us who look to more obscure sources like DU for their news were aware of the events but to the vast majority of the public who rely on "conventional" media for their information, it was a non event.

In San Jose, California, The Mercury news had a tiny article, on page three, at the bottom, about a small gathering in Palo Alto. The network news had nothing at all that I could find, and I was looking! Most people were not looking. Most of the public saw nothing.

We have marched in the streets. We have screamed at the top of our lungs from "free speech" cages. We have laid our bodies in the sand, thousands of us, spelling IMPEACH! Folks, IT ISN'T WORKING! It's time to try something else.

On the Greatest page right now is an excellent post asking us to hold the gasbag, talking heads accountable. To let them know that we know they are lying to us. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3020596
It's time we do the same thing to all of the corporate,Pravda.

On Wednesday, there will be a stop the war action in San Jose at the library. THE LIBRARY! Folks, most of the people who bother to use a library already know things are fucked up. They don't need us to tell them and by Thursday it will just be yet another non event.

We need to stop wasting our time standing in front of libraries and town squares and free speech cages and take this RIGHT TO THE FRONT DOORS OF THE MEDIA. We need to spell out IMPEACH! in human bodies, right on the front lawn of the San Jose Mercury News. We need to surround the entire block of Chanel 11. We need to make it so that no one can get in or out of our "news" affiliates offices without going directly through the crowd of outraged citizenry. We need to stop enabling the media to ignore us. They are under orders to ignore us. They won't come to the library. There will be no front page photo of the protest. They won't come to us. IT'S TIME FOR US TO TAKE IT TO THEM! It's time to force them to pay attention.

If you are an organizer of one of these events, if you know someone who organizes these events, if you are in e-mail contact with the groups that help put the events together, or if you participate, please pass this along.

It is time to change tactics.

Bud

1. Protests
The problem as I see it is various groups throw their protests and then others do it later on. Piecemeal, in other words.

What we need is one day, one massive worldwide protest, mobilizing every soul on earth that still cares about the world and the people on it.

If you could get 20 million people out in America in all major cities for one day, then MSM would have no choice but to cover it.

And I empathize. I was in DC Jan 2003 doing my tiny part of the many worldwide protests that took place in that time. The number of people that participated in organized protests at that time was the greatest mass gatherings of people in recorded history.

Did anybody know that? ...probably not....

3. Good point but the deomonstrations here were on the news and in the papers
Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 05:04 PM by Breeze54
But a massive march (again) and standing in front of the RW newspapers and the NYT,
the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, Fox News, etc. etc would be awesome!
My local FN goes to different town commons every Friday and broadcast from there.
If a bunch of us met up where they are and got on camera, that would make the news
for sure! I also think with the primaries going on, that a lot of the news has been
taken up by that and now it will be this recession and banks and stocks falling.

4. You are right about the current news cycle
But this has been going on since the war started. I'm just saying that if we bother to do it at all, we should do it so they can't ignore us.

9. We need to take action to remove the enablers from power
The US Congress needs to be replaced with people who believe in WE the PEOPLE! Our current Congress of enablers has no interest in listening to us because no one runs against them. They run unopposed time and time again, so why should they give a damn? Activists everywhere need to unite to run for office and support those who have the courage to do so.
We need to take back the People's house FOR the people! This is the only way to stop the next corporate president.
