Anti-choice nuts infiltrate the Hollywood premiere of "Horton Hears a Who" and chant slogan at its stars and their children.



Funniest story I saw all week was this blip from TMZ about anti-choice protesters infiltrating the Hollywood premiere of Horton Hears a Who to chant anti-abortions slogans at stars and their children as the credits rolled. (H/T Feministe) Never mind, of course, that the real Dr. Seuss told them to knock it off the last time the anti-choice folks tried to twist his words to their own agenda -- or that the book was written as:

...a quiet statement against political isolationism and, in the McCarthy era in which it was written, it seemed to be a plea for political tolerance. (Geisel cried foul, however, when the anti-abortion movement appropriated and politicized the central phrase from "Horton" -- "A person's a person no matter how small.")

Guess the wishes of the author and his tiny fans don't matter. Or, in the alternative, that making a public spectacle of yourself in front of a crowd of non-comprehending children and the author's widow can apparently become an addictive yet weird pastime. (Although I do wonder if the anti-choice folks dragged their own children along to the premiere as "kid props" to gain entry, don't you?)

In any case, we are hoping to take The Peanut to see the film later on today. She loves to see movies in theaters, and the Horton books are some of her favorite Seuss of all time -- she loves the Whos and the elephant who works so hard to protect them -- so it should be a fun time for the Smiths today.

true story, some years back I was doing a demo of a game I worked on for somebody else

The player started, very excitedly, telling me why I was not running my troops right, since that's not what the writer meant about the fictional faction I was playing.

"Well, I think I KNOW what I meant."

The player stood there dumbfounded for thirty seconds and then started arguing again, HOW the author didn't mean what I thought I meant.

Yep, it was one of those moments of high comedy.

Doesn't help that this was a table top game and I have cooties and cooties don't write material for them darn game books... (Yes the attitude is real). My husband was laughing so hard that it took him about five minutes to get involved. Kid of course asked, what's so funny?

She wrote it... she KNOWS what she wrote! (Left unsaid was the word Moron, but I know hubby thought it)

Kid again staid there speechless for another two minutes, then picked up his toys and went home

I wonder if he'd argue with other authors as well... but given what these guys did... something like this would not shock me.

4. These are the same types that set up in front of the elementary school in our area...

There is a hospital across the street from one of our city schools where the local wing-nuts tend to set up.

The problem that I have with these folks is that their preferred location is in the rear of the hospital, (behind the parking garage; completely opposite from the offices of the individuals they claim to target).

Let adults be adults, and allow children to be children. Please don't bring adult-oriented issues into the lives of children whose innocence and age of maturity are being constantly eroded by the ills of society and your theological take on our culture.

Disgusting.
