You do know the Head of the CIA died under suspicious circumstances?
He died from Canoeing.

Or.......

William Colby

Director of Central Intelligence (ret)

Died - April 27(?), 1996
William Colby had been the DCI from 1973 to 1976 under Nixon and Ford.

At age 76, Colby had found a new career and had just started writing for Strategic Investment at the time of his death. This had worried many insiders in the intelligence community who felt that Colby had already divulged too many of the CIA's secrets in the preceding years. Indeed, his dismissal by Ford because of his over-cooperation with Congressional investigations into CIA wrongdoing. It was Colby who had revealed to Congress the plans to kill Fidel Castro, the spying on American citizens (in direct violation of the CIA charter) and the conducting of biological tests by the CIA on unsuspecting citizens. George Bush replaced him.

According to the original CNN report, Colby was reported missing by neighbors who "recovered" his canoe, by one story from under the dock at Colby's house, by another report, 1/4 of a mile downstream from Colby's home.

Colby was by all report a methodical, tidy man, yet police found his home unlocked, his computer on, and a partly eaten dinner on the table. The official story is that Colby just put down his fork and decided to drop everything and go canoeing.

Colby at 76 was still a world-traveler and consultant to many corporations. He recently became an editor of an important financial newsletter, "Strategic Investment," which covered the Vince Foster "suicide" in detail. Its editors hired three renowned handwriting experts to investigate Foster's suicide note, which hadn't been found when his briefcase was first searched, but later materialized, torn into pieces, with no fingerprints on any of the pieces. Upon comparing this document with others of Foster's writings, these experts declared it was a forgery, and a not very good one at that.

Colby had old enemies as well as new, with plenty of motives for his extermination. He was in charge of the infamous Operation Phoenix during the Vietnam War, in which more than 20,000 South Vietnamese citizens -- supposedly Vietcong sympathizers -- were rounded up, tortured and executed. In the 1970s he opened some of the secrets of the CIA to Congress: "Colby insisted on going public about the agency's role in tapping the telephones and opening the mail of Americans; plotting the assassination of Fidel Castro, and using human guinea pigs for mind-control experiments involving LSD," the Times reports.

On Monday, May 6th, Colby's body was found just 20 yards from where his canoe had been recovered, in an area that had been thoroughly searched several times by helicopters and search teams.

Most notable about the body was the absence of a life jacket, which according to his wife, Colby always wore on the water.

As has since been proven to have happened in the JFK Jr. case false stories were being deliberatly planted in the media, including one quoting Mrs. Colby herself as having been told by William Colby by phone that he was going canoeing. Mrs. Colby denied any such story. The week that he died, Colby was scheduled to meet with the Disclosure Project.

1. Ex-Director of C.I.A. Disappears While Canoeing on Choppy River

By TIM WEINER
Published: April 30, 1996

A chilly wind from the southeast was gusting up to 25 miles an houron Saturday, whipping up two-foot whitecaps on the rivers. There was a running tide, pulled by a waxing moon. The water was high and murky from recent rains.

In a telephone call on Saturday, Mr. Colby told his wife, Sally Shelton, who was at a conference in Houston over the weekend, that he was feeling under the weather, friends said.

A neighbor found the house unlocked with Mr. Colby's computer and radio turned on and his supper dishes on the table, the authorities said. Alerted to his apparent disappearance, the Coast Guard, along with a helicopter and two police boats from the Maryland State Police, searched for Mr. Colby on Sunday and today but had no success.

He was a very smart man, no way he'd go canoeing under those conditions, especially when feeling "under the weather" and leaving the house unlocked with the comp and radio still on. sounds like he answered the door to the wrong people, jmho.

No life jacket? Found in area thoroughly searched several times?

I believed the story was horse shit in 1996 and have seen no evidence to the contrary to change my mind.

2. Of course it was horseshit
I think most of us have realized that from the beginning. Similarly, the "suicide" of David Kelly was obvious horseshit, but even if everyone knows the official story stinks they still get away with it if no one is allowed to investigate.

This is why I will never give a tin-foil hatter a hard time. There ARE conspiracies out there, everywhere you look.

6. that's an intersection i've never thought about --
but, it makes sense. like "damning with faint praise," if some morsel of truth comes out vis a vis something totally absurd (like UFOs) or is reported first by a questionable new source (like the Enquirer), then you don't have to worry about people believing it. it's smeared for evermore.

The Disclosure Project is great ---

and I agree that certainly even probably 8th graders could come up with better technology
than our gas-guzzler ---

and an oil industry which has killed our planet ---

5. i always thought William Casey's death was just TOO convenient...
*brain cancer* supposedly overtook him HOURS before he was to testify about Iran-Contra. the Bob Woodward stuff is wacky too.

from Wiki...

Casey was also the principal architect of the arms-for-hostages deal that became known as the Iran-Contra affair.

Hours before Casey was scheduled to testify before Congress about his knowledge of Iran-Contra, he was reported to have been rendered incapable of speech, and was later hospitalized. In his 1987 book, Veil: The Secret Wars of the CIA 1981-1987, Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward, who had interviewed Casey on numerous occasions, said that he had gained entry to Casey's hospital room for a final, four-minute long encounter — a claim that was met with disbelief in many quarters, and adamant denial by Casey's wife, Sofia. According to Woodward, when he asked Casey if he knew about the diversion of funds to the Nicaraguan Contras, "His head jerked up hard. He stared, and finally nodded yes."

Casey died of brain cancer in 1987 at the age of 74. He is buried in the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, New York. He was survived by his wife, the former Sophia McDaid, and his daughter, Bernadette Smith.

7. Spycraft: The Graet Game
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spycraft:_The_Great_Game

Spycraft (also known by its full title, Spycraft: The Great Game) is an adventure CD-ROM game published by Activision in 1996. It details the attempted assassination of the President of the United States and the CIA and SVR attempts to save him. Although the game was not approved by either organization, it tends to favour realism due to its coordination with former CIA director William Colby and former KGB Major-General Oleg Kalugin.

Plot

The player (whose gender is unspecified) plays the role of Thorn, a rookie at the CIA. During training, Thorn receives word that the Russian Presidential candidate has been assassinated in Red Square and during a live-fire exercise, Thorn's instructor is shot in the head. Thorn also learns that a former CIA agent (codenamed "Harmonica") is behind both hits and it is up to Thorn and his team to solve the crime before it takes the life of President Brooks of the United States.

------
i played this game in the 90's and some of the tools you could use in it was the ability to alter photograhs just like the oswald photograph with oswald holding the rifle and newspaper and the ability to track the trajectory of the assassins bullet.

10. I have that game myself
I was told it was pulled from shelves shortly following its release by the person who recommended it to me, but I haven't been able to confirm that. Then again, any information of the sort probably wouldn't be able to be found to verify that at this point, so I might never know if it's true or not.

9. Colby didn't keep the secrets.
He promised both the Church and the Pike Congressional committees that they would receive cooperation from CIA.

The reality was, he was a cover-up artist extraordinaire, doing a limited-hangout with the Family Jewels sideshow.

The guy said zip re: Operation PHOENIX that he ran in Vietnam. He also kept his lip zipped regarding Dick Helms and ZR/RIFLE.
