Has Anyone Signed Up On Air America To Download Shows?
since ben burch had to stop archiving their shows on whiterose and randi's "illegal" archives got a cease & desist letter (apparently as of friday/today)the shows have been pulled.

so--i'm just wondering if anyone pays to download any of the shows from on aar, how it's going, how long it takes for them to get a show up, etc.

any advice or suggestions?

1. I podcast everything, so I can listen when I want to (or am able to).
It's a bargain considering how much I learn, and the podcasts go up within a couple of hours after the show ends.

Except on the weekends. Rachel Maddow usually gets put up Friday night, but Clout, which comes after her, is delayed a couple of days.

Thom Hartmann takes longer than some of the others for no reason that I know of.

The Saturday shows don't get posted until Sunday evening, when Sam Seder finishes.

There's no delay on him, usually.

If you have any other questions, just holler.

2. BTW, I use iTunes to download them.
They show up in my iTunes account automatically, when I refresh, and one click on "Get" downloads them.

3. could i just stream it with real player? i think i could.
did you sign up for the premium (or whatever they call it) so you can hear all the shows?

do you/did you sign up for the year? or monthly?

i just missed the final hour of randi's show today--and already i'm getting edgy knowing i don't have access to it.

(talk about an addiction!)

14. Answers to your questions -
Yes, I signed up for Premium, yearly, which seems to renew automatically.

The podcast was posted last night, so it's there.

The nice thing about iTunes is that you don't have to do any fiddling with your computer to get it. It just shows up, within seconds of subscribing to it, which happens with a click on the iTunes button.

I don't know about real player, so here's hoping someone else can answer that part.

4. I've been with Air America Premium for a year now...
I pay monthly with an automatic deduction of about $10.50 per month...

I think it's a great deal considering I get both the free and premium podcasts. The previous poster is right about the lag time in getting the podcasts posted over the weekend or especially over the holidays... it might take a few days.

I use Opera for my browser, and it has a built in RSS function that automatically grabs the feeds for me directly from AAR. Others use I Tunes and are quite happy.

here's a link to the free podcasts on AAR:

here's a link to the AAR forum for questions and tech support: (not an official AAR site)

good luck to you!

5. All I need is my Mike Malloy podcasts. Would be nice to hear Hartmann
once in awhile, but that's just way too much money for me.

13. Yes, started on podcasts last week
A few radio stations carry it live.
They take phone calls about whats happening that day.
She has quest hosts for the third hour when she's on Countdown with Keith Olbermann

8. had premium membership for some time...
with an annual subscription. I set my account to "do not renew" when they cancelled Sam Seder's daily show (I might have stayed on for the Young Turks, but they recently cancelled that too). Guess what? They resubscribed me anyway and charged the credit card (I contested it and got a refund, but it was a hassle).

The daily shows go up promptly a couple hours after they end, and it's easy to download mp3s or stream.

here is what ben wrote:

Hi!

As you have likely noticed, The Thom Hartmann Show and The Randi Rhodes Show are no longer archived on this site however, stay tuned for further developments.

This is an opportunity, however, to do what this site was created for; Find and showcase Liberal/Progressive radio talent who are not widely known and who SHOULD BE.

and the guy who does randi's "illegal" archives wrote:

Well, the AAR attorneys have sent an official via-United-States-Post-Office-Registered-Mail a cease & desist letter. Thats only one of the reasons why this site has not been updated in over a month. My family moved. We ran through all of our savings trying to keep a roof over our head and the bills paid. And I was just plain tired. FIVE YEARS this website has been up and I just got tired. With everything else happening around me - no job, no money, close family members in the hospital with life-threatening illnesses... I just got tired. I am going to try to get back into the swing of things, but it may not be the cease & desist that takes this site off the web... I am broke!
snip
I dont know how much longer this site will be up, but I will keep it up until the absolute last breath! I just dont understand why this site is being singled out when some other Randi Free Archives sites are allowed to stay up. Oh well. We will see what happens. Life truly sucks. Could this be goodbye?
http://www.randirhodesarchives.com/

but, as it turned out, he was not singled out. ben was told to stop archiving too.

the above site has wednesday and thursday up, old bits of interviews and it looks like that is all. more current shows are gone.

this blows!

on edit: i googled and found an old du thread with ben announcing he will be putting up her show's archives back in april of 2004!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=109x8247
i've depended on it ever since.
oh well. everything changes sooner or later.

11. screw AAR !
They have turned into trash since they fired Malloy and Mark M .

They stopped White rose from archiving Hartmann and Randi even to the point of forcing white rose to destroy the old archives .

There are shows where Malloy stood in for Randi that should not have been taken down because they were not Randi the whiner .

I used to enjoy Randi but not anymore .

19. I've been doing it through AAR Premium for a while
because I like being able to listen when I want and not having the commercials. Generally it works pretty well and the podcasts are available within an hour or two after the shows have been broadcast although about once a week or so there seems to be a delay in getting things up and I get kind of frustrated. Even so, it's a good deal for me. I podcast Stephanie Miller too and the availability of those are like clockwork.
