It's like the 60's, man
Old vs young, white vs black, you youngsters don't know what you're doing, get out of the way, you old farts are fossils, get out of the way. This is MY country, no this is MY country, protest the war, ain't no Iraqi never done nuttin to me. Another mad Texan in the White House, soldiers coming home in caskets, Mothers crying, Fathers weeping, everybody's angry, peace, love, unity. Pastor Wright preaching black nationalism, abortions are contraversial and being fought for to be legal.

Wait. Ahhhhh, marijuana use popular, Castro in Cuba, save the environment, Ralph Nader in the news. A rocket ship takes off into space. A Global Village and mass communications, well it's 1, 2, 3 what are we fighting for, don't ask me I don't give a damn, gonna get my ass blown off in the sand.

Hey man, going to Woodstock, yo dude, going to Rothbury? Didja see the new Rolling Stone magazine? I have a dream, change we can believe in.

This is about when I got on the bus, I hope it doesn't mean the bus is driving in circles.

10. Don't I know it
Still paying for mine and now I've got 2 kids within 2 years of going and another one who will be there in 5 years. I started teaching them the word "scholarship" when they were babies.

30. Quite affordable
I'm blown away when I see the cost of a college education today. I could pay off my college tuition with a part-time job back then, at least college tuition in the California U.C. system. I feel real sorrow for young people who don't know who much easier some things used to be.

44. I get angry
My parents decided, once my grades dropped to a ~2.5 GPA (this was after they gave me a wet ditch to sleep in in the previous year)that I could pay for it all myself. After all, if they could, anyone else could too.

I dropped out and never found a way to afford going back. Thanks, mom and dad, for teaching me all about personal responsibility.

(That's not entirely accurate. They waited until all financial aid for the year had been awarded, then pulled the rug out from under me. I have no doubt in my mind at all that that was exactly the way they planned it.)

I just wish I could have found a way to hold them responsible for what they did to me.

3. "We go round and round and round in the circle game." - Joni Mitchell
Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 05:34 PM by SpiralHawk
But, of course, circles progress through time and space, and in reality are spirals...we are going round and round and round in the Spiral Game (much better).

And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
Were captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look
Behind from where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

- Joni M.

7. it was the 50s that were the anomaly.
pre-ww2 & post-50s, there has been a social upheaval going on.

if it weren't for 3 assassinations, the GOP's think-tank offensive, & the numbing effects of tv & consumerism, there'd be pitched battles in the streets every day.

Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 05:52 PM by housewolf
Things keep turnin', and everything old is new again.

Have you noticed this year's women's fashions?

They look like a melding of 40's & 60's.

What is it they say... those who don't learn from history are bound to repeat it?

40's clothes had STYLE.

60's clothes (pre-hippy) is what is considered hip now. I almost vomited when I saw the crap they are pushing for spring. Lady Byrd Johnson and the beehive hairdos would be right at home with the polyester parade. :scared:

34. Thanks!
All my old albums are warped and unplayable. The loss of my Dylan collection hurt me the most then but I bought the CD's and play them loud. Except Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, which I listen to with headphones so the kids don't hear. Doesn't matter anyway, my oldest (16) found a version by the Black Crowes on You Tube.

We don't have anything to play it on, but it's in still in there. No kids for us, we were into ZPG. We do enjoy kids though, and have over 50 nieces and nephews between us. Mr. Pup was playing "Tangled Up in Blue" in a cowboy bar when I met him. He was one brave yankee! Peace.

But this thing , whatever it is , feels a lot different to me . Perhaps it's the change in the landscape through mans so called progress , or the lack or the person on the phone or at the desk with the type writer and the phone hand set shoulder rest .

To me it feels like a sterilized cold emptiness where everything that can be done has been done .

Yes , we are going in circles and as this circle spins chunks of humanity are flung off .
