In unusual move, US Mint releases 60-cent piece (photo)

On 9 Jan 2001, a Euro was worth 0.9397 US dollar. Had you bought US$1000 worth of Euros, that would have been €1064. As of yesterday a Euro is worth 1.5584 US dollars, so that €1064 would now be worth US$1658. (Data from http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/data/DEXUSEU.txt )

Remember the question Ron Headrest encouraged us to ask: Are you better off now than you were four years ago?

8. The Euro was thought to be collapsing when it fell to near .80
Somehow the same perspective doesn't apply to the dollar. Funny thing about that.

11. Somewhere in one of the dimensions the internets is a cache of a story wherein W
said that the 60 cent value was a target value that would turn around US manufacturing. It was back a couple years during one of the periods in which the US was complaining about the Chinese having their currency pegged to ours.

16. You are referring, of course, to the new U.S. Peso (USP)
Or, as the poverty-addled, glue huffing natives call it, the Arbusto.

Yes, bring mucho Arbustos with you to Bushlandia on your future visits there. A full gas tank will cost you a wheelbarrow full.

20. A couple of years ago some poor schmuck had $10 in canadian quarters
he couldn't unload... I bought them from him for $8.00

They are now worth $12 I think. I made 50% profit over 2 years! Dang I should have bought a lot more Canadian money. Of course at the time I was just helping a guy who couldn't get his money exchanged at the bank... My daughter has some of them taped to her ceiling for some strange reason. Don't know where the rest of 'em are.

:D
