WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The fundraising arm for Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives said on Thursday its former treasurer is under investigation for the unauthorized transfers of "several hundred thousand dollars" of its funds that appear to have landed in his personal accounts.

The National Republican Congressional Committee said that after it learned bogus financial statements had been submitted to its bank dating back to 2002, it contacted the FBI, which began a criminal investigation.

1. Crooks Stealing From Crooks
Besides schadenfraude, there has to be a better term to describe this. Supposedly $1 mil got pilfered and anyone who works with a charity or other operation where fundraising is key to surivival would have nightmares trying to operate with this cloud hanging over their heads. Even more fun could be a trial that exposes the backchannel financing that went on during these years.

Keep in mind that many of the years in question here were when DeLay ran the House and the RCCC...he was funneling money in and around to win the redistricting in Texas (attention Ronnie Earl) and there were all sorts of games played to reward friends and punish others...and I suspect the missing money worked its way to grease a lot of pockets.
