Continuing Noose Incidents at Eli Lilly Warrant Full FBI Investigation

Hundreds of employees describe racially hostile environment

Another hangman’s noose has been found on the corporate campus of Eli Lilly, one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies.

On the morning of Feb. 9, a contract security guard patrolling one of the company’s parking structures at its headquarters in Indianapolis, discovered the noose hanging from a tree, leaving her terrorized by the experience.

This recent incident is the third hangman’s noose reported at Eli Lilly offices. A report by the contracted security company allegedly indicates that the entire Feb. 9 incident was captured by Eli Lilly security surveillance cameras, yet company officials have sealed the evidence.

Last November the NAACP joined in a class action lawsuit to end hundreds of current and former African American employees’ descriptions of pervasive, unfair termination rates, pay discrimination and hostile working environments at Eli Lilly.

ACLU: Noose Display: Free Speech

Plan to prohibit noose displays runs into static
ACLU chief says bill would curb free speech

BATON ROUGE -- Legislation making it a crime to draw or display a hangman's noose on public property or the property of someone else as an intimidation tactic has been filed for debate at the general session that begins March 31, but civil libertarians said Thursday the proposal may be a violation of freedom of speech.

...

But Marjorie Esman, executive director of the state branch of the American Civil Liberties Union, said although displaying a noose may send "an odious message" to black Americans, the action still is protected by the First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech.

9. Yes, well I realize there are 2 different kinds of "free speech" nowadays...
the old type and the new one where somebody somewhere gets offended.

Federal lawsuit follows anti-Bush T-shirt arrests

A couple arrested for wearing anti-Bush T-shirts to the president's July 4 appearance at the West Virginia Capitol filed a federal lawsuit yesterday alleging their First Amendment rights were violated.

Nicole and Jeff Rank were removed from the event in handcuffs after revealing T-shirts with President Bush's name crossed out on the front.

Arrested in Charleston, WV for trespassing on State Capital grounds. They were handcuffed and hauled to jail, removed before Bush arrived, and held in detention. Bush spoke about free speech and freedom of expression. They were in jail.

6. Bush Sr. was personally ordered by the Supreme Court
Bush Sr. was personally ordered by the Supreme Court to stop lobbying the IRS on behalf of Lilly for tax breaks in 1982. The Bush family has been substantially invested in Eli Lilly stock for years.

Ken Lay and Rumsfeld were also on the board I believe. Quite the motley crew has passed through Lilly's doors.

8. Wowsers!
Motley Crew indeed. Seems to me that Eli Lily would want to keep their name far away from any media. So I wonder what those damned nooses are all about.... Disgruntled ex-employee perhaps?
