The Day After the Bombing of Iran
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 01:00 PM by davidswanson
Imagine yourself sitting down transfixed and watching video footage of U.S. bombs hitting Iran. You see children ripped limb from limb, mothers screaming and wailing, people panicked, tortured, traumatized, and killed. Imagine asking yourself at that point: What was I doing these past many months that I thought was more important than preventing this?

Now ask yourself today: What am I doing that is more important than ending the ongoing hell of the U.S. occupation of Iraq?

Are you struggling to support your family? So are many, many other people who still find hours and days to commit. While congress members and senators have the gall to tell constituents that opposing Pelosi or Reid and cutting off the funding lies outside their "comfort zone," citizens are going without sleep, ruining marriages and friendships, losing money, fasting, and risking serious jail time for nonviolent protests. Are those children hit by the bombs living within a "comfort zone"?

Are you working on an election campaign? Is that where you believe democratic activism belongs? Here are a few reasons to consider putting at least some of your energy into ending the occupation of Iraq right now: First, there is no good reason to believe votes will be honestly counted. Second, there are no candidates in the two big parties who intend to end the occupation quickly, but there might be one if the peace movement were larger - and that shift in policy would help that candidate win more than doing what he wants you to do would help. Third, a great many people will die unnecessary deaths during the next 10 months, and it is simply not true that Congress cannot prevent it. Any Senator can commit now to filibustering the funding, just as Senator Chris Dodd committed to filibustering telecom immunity. Any representative can commit now to voting No and to lobbying Pelosi not to bring the funding up for a vote. We elected them to do this in 2006, and if we do not hold them to it we will lose the power to elect anyone to do anything we want in 2008.

Are you working to pass federal legislation on an important issue that will benefit millions of people? That's sweet of you, but a complete waste of time. As I said in November of 2006, and as has proved true over 15 months: good bills will be vetoed, bad ones will become law, and mixed ones will have the good parts signing-statemented. Building momentum to pass your bill next year is all well and good, but there will be no money to pay for it if the occupation of Iraq continues. Were Congress to find the nerve to impeach, you might get your legislation turned into law this year. And I would ask you to close your eyes and look one more time at the dying children of Iran. If that doesn't work, open your eyes and look at these images from our occupation of Iraq: http://afterdowningstreet.org/image

Are you working to make change at the local or state level? Are you working to educate, to change our culture, to inject decency into the world of business? Are you providing direct assistance to people in need? By no means should you stop, but you will be stopped if global war results from the suicidal course our government is on. You will be stopped if global warming is not reversed. You will be stopped if the hatred for the United States that Bush and Cheney are developing around the world blows back at us in a violent form. You will have to live with the destroyed human beings who are veterans of U.S. military service in Iraq. And you will have to live with knowing that collectively we could very easily have prevented hundreds of thousands of deaths, and you didn't do your bit.

So, let's all do our share. Let's do it this week. Let's put an end to this murderous catastrophe right now and get on with the enormous task of building a peaceful and sustainable world.

So, what should you do? You should get involved in one of the events planned everywhere in the country on March 19th and surrounding days: http://resistinmarch.org

3. the day after that, Iranian ground forces will sweep across southern Iraq,
cutting US forces off from their main supply line and escape route. The Straits of Hormuz will become a graveyard for any ship that dares to pass. the troops in the south will sweep northwards and forces from the north will head south in an attempt at surrounding our forces.

It will be a blood bath. Will we have the air power, man power, and ammo to fight back? Would bush feel justified using nuclear weapons against "Iranian aggression"?

4. The only thing I would change is Iran to Venezuela, looks like...
our government is trying to add them as a terrorist state as we speak and they too, are an oil rich country like Iran that doesn't want to go along with the elites new world order agenda. Luckily, information came our about Iran that slowed that down but I am afraid Americans don't see it coming in Venezuela.

Outstanding post!Thank you for being one thats involved.

If US in the next year or so really attack Iran, without exude, and with no prof that Iran are building the Bomb.. Or other thing that they can trump out as case belli for war. Then United States of America would be in so deep trouble, in international affairs that even the best of friends, and the best of allied probably would turn their back on US. And this time around, US should not be that sure about support from United Kingdom's as they was before the Iraqi War.. Mr Brown looks munch more like a man who can think for himself. And not follow order from Washington DC.

As many have pointed out, here in this tread, and in many other articles and paper, that if US was to attack, be no surprised if it happen end just by lightning.. And that the result would be that the whole Persian Gulf, was blowing right up in our faces.. Many alarmist was angry enough over the Iraqi War. But if US was going to war, against another country, without some real prove, it would be so much problem for US, both in the Persian Gulf, but also all over the world.. If america was feel afraid over the "attitude" against US before the Iraq war, even in our friendly little country many american was feeling afraid over the mood difference from before mr Bush wanted to go to war... Then they have not seen nothing yet...

And if US was attaching Iran, the country Will use their hand to chock the traffic out and in of the Persian Gulf. After all they have a lot of new equipment, both by hard US dollar from Russia.. The Sunburn missile is faster, more agiler, and more dangerous than everything United States of America have to offer, to protect their Aircraft Carrier or other ships, who may need to be in the waters to fight war.. And civilian traffic would be so dangerous that if you thing 4 dollar a gallon is expensive, just wait to the price double, or triple because of the danger... And as long as the is no land line to the Meditarian the only way to get oil out, is by sea.. And the only way to get the oil out is by the Hormuz Street..A street that Iran have demand over.. And are willing to close down. As they almost was doing in the 1980s when Iraq-Iran was in war good helped, and founded by the United States who believed Iran to be a weak country after the overthrown of the shan, and installment of a rather radical regime...

They get it wrong then. And I am afraid, that US are wrong this time around to.. Yes US have the military might, but Iran are no Iraq. The regime in Iran have support in the public, even if the public want something else more to their liking than this President they have.. And Iran are fiercely nationalistic, and would pro bely fight hard, to defend their country. Regardless the regime in Tehrean...

If US was to attack Iran I am afraid, the middle East as we know it would blow right up. And the name of United States of America be ashamed over the most of the world. Even in country where US rationality have been the best of friends, and where the leadership have been educated in US. The mood was in the roundup to the Iraq war was "what in the world are really happen end in US today?. Why can't they listing ro reason???" And this is from regimes who traditionally have been GREAT FRIENDS of United States and where the leadership own every cent to their power, to the US.. Now even them are shaking their heads and trying to defuse it så it would not damage their own power base home..

If US was to attack Iran. Then I am very afraid of what follow.. Mr Bush have repeatedly said that every weapon are on the table, even nuclear one.. And if a Nuclear bomb are used, even a low yeld weapon, I am afraid the days of Musharaff in Pakistan is numbered, and another, more extreme regime taking power there.. And this county HAVE nuclear weapon, and many in the more radical/extreme political parties have repeatedly sayd that they can use the nuclear bomb... So I am afraid what follow, if US was to attack Iran.. I am really afraid of what follow

But, I would guess that reason are something this regime are an lack of. Reason, and proof of what they are doing, or what they want to do before the end is possible very clear to us now. War with Iraq. War with Iran. War with every F***** country who at one point was given the Bush family some problems, or was given every one else in the right wing problems.. The Neo-con political view are noting less than the Main Kampf in the 21 century.. And US have not learned a single thing for what Europe was paid for when in their "world dominational mood":. It ended ugly for Europe, and just now Europe are strong enough to do something else than be in our own little paddle pound and do what we want there... US would end in the same nightmare if US was to attack Iran.. US are even today military overstretch, and no war are been won by air power alone.. If you want to win a war, you need boot on the ground, and for the moment you don't have it

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/JC13Ak03.html http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/JC13Ak01.html But after Admiral Fallon's "retainment" from service everything is up for grasp. Even a War with Iran.. He was one of the strongest opponent against a war in Iran.. And as many of the officers that was "retired" or shall we say fired before the Iraq War he was a trouble because he was given reason to what he believe in.. And you do not do that, if you want to survive your post in Bush Pentagon.. If you say what you want, and do without read ling the script, you are fired... Even that you have over 30 year service, and JUST are a Admiral...:sarcasm:

I hope US are not attaching Iran. But I am not a the single surprised if US was to attack Iran... It fit every thing this administration have been doing, for the last 8 year. And I Know a few Neo-cons who would be very happy, if US was going to war in Iran. Even if it means Nuclear attack... If just US was given their "free oil" then nothing else matter for the neo-cons..

Thank you for your efforts posting here. As you have said, English is not your native tongue, but you persevere, and I have little difficulty understanding what you have to say.

I share your fears and concern about what is almost certain to happen if the US attacks Iran. I don't think the average American has a clue regarding the implications, and BushCheney doesn't care.

Thank you, for reading my English, who as I have pointed out is not my best, or native language;). And I am not quiting for a long while when I get feedback that I do manage it better than I believed first.. And I feeling more comfortable of writing in English now then I first was coming here...;)

We shall all should fear the day when Iran is attached.. And I dont believe US have the right, to just blow other nations up, because they for the moment are your adversaries.. And when it come to US Iran relationship. US have some very bad history, that I don't believe the average american understand.. And that i possible the ground that mr Bush can paint Iran in so grim color as he is doing.. US have toppled a democratic prime-minister in Iran before.. And replaced it with a author ian, dictatorship, armed, and in many cases founded by the US... And when US was count red handed, then they had no clue what so ever that Iran was on the brink of revolution, the result was not that US admitted some wrongdoing, and trying to get into a dialog with Iran. But rater that they wanted to topple the new regime, and have been trying to do it ever since..

It is no doubt that the Bush/Cheney group want war with Iran. But if they want to stop terrorism, they have to act otherwise then to go to war with Iran.. Who have had no known link to 9/11 or other known terror act the last couple of year.. If US was to go to war with they who mastermind, and financed that attack, they should look closely at Saudi-Arabia, and not at least Pakistan... Or other of the "allied in the war against terror":. Believe me, if you dig little around this country, you would find that the leadership are talking horse-shit to the US government.. Specially when it come to Saudi-Arabia who the current administration se to have a special friendship with. The Saudi-arabian government have in a decanted financed the Bin Laden terrorist network and have been known to found extremist group, in Mosques and its like.. In fact in part of Indonesia, the "missionaries" from Saudi-Arabia was been trowing out of the country, because they was teaching a ideology who no indonesian want to suport... It was until the US steeped in then, and was telling the government of Indonesia that SAUDI-ARABIA must have the right to do it.. But then, it was before the attack on New York in 2001... It is almost common knowlegde...

We can always hope, that US do not attack Iran.. But that was something the most of europe hoped, and prayed for, in 1939, right before Germany attacked Poland to.. That reason, that diplomacy could manage to stop the war....

And we all know what happened first 1 sept 1939.. And then again 3 Sept 1939, when official United Kingdom and France declared war on Germany..

We have just one thing to do here.. Say loud and clear no to war.. Even if the right wingers would say we are cowards, or that we don't understand the idea of freedom and liberty.. And that we have to thank the US for that we are not talking german today.. The fact that UK was bleeding dry, Both by men and by money..and US was not going to protect Europe, because the war was not USs war are something they don't talk aloud about.. If it was not for the stupid mistake that Imperial Japanese Aircraft Carrier and its aircraft was given Pearl Harbor the famous hell it was 7 december 1941.. The US would possible have not going to war in Europe, and let UK dry up before they "maybe" have being doing something to stop Hitler in Europe.. Or maybe even get into a deal with US, on terms that Nazi-Germany would be happy with.. Yes we should, and are very happy about the fact that US was coming to our help in 1942 and forward. And we are still gratefully about the Marshall plan that followed the liberation of West Europe.. But never take our gratitude for granted.. It is almost 70 year ago now. And a lot of tear and water have been running into the atlantic since then...

We can hope that our alliance, and friendship would endure for a long time. And I do hope that US would avoid a war with Iran.. It is not the time for US to go to war with a another Islamic country.. It is time for US to try to rebuild what is destroyed... And to make new friends in the area... But I guess that is just a hope that would be chattered.. As many of my ideas about US have ben destroyed the last 8 year... Don't hate you, would never do that.. But my disappointment with US is deep... very deep..

6. Is this before or after the stock market crashes, inflation shoots the roof,
a loaf of bread costs 20 buck or I realized I haven't planted enough in my garden to feed myself and my wife?

Oh yeah, the war. As long as hillary and obama refuse to keep it front and center and choose to whine about bullshit, we are never leaving.

and if we bomb Iran, that is all the proof anyone in this nation will need to prove that true.

for the next ten months we will continue to have a congress that refuses to put "impeachment on the table" a prezzz* that refuses to listen to us or congress and chooses to do as he pleases and prefers listening to the voices in his head, do you honestly, honestly believe that us the people have a snowballs chance short of revolution of changing anything?

The bottom line is: (paraphrasing the French doctor in Sicko) "The French government fears it's people. In America, the people fear it's government."

just going about their lives, much like the average Iraqi was 5 years ago.

And some people actually wonder why our country is universally loathed outside our borders.

10. The one reason I believe we will attack Iran is because the neons see the end of their reign.
They may think that if they start the war it will bring the things that PNAC wanted ever since they asked Clinton to go along with them in 1996. If they start the war surely McCain will continue it.

It will ultimately bankrupt this country both financially and morally.

18. I heard Scott Ritter on faris show yesterday
and what Scott basically said is with Fallon out and Cheney on the go in the ME Cheney will have no opposition . He also said the bush admin really does not need an excuse anymore and that the plans for an attack and targets are being undated daily , sometimes hourly .

This is why he feels Fallon retired because it does look like an Iran attack is in the works . Ritter was asked about if they needed ground troops , he said first it would be a few day long air attack then if this fails they will go nuclear , troops may be needed later and he said they do have the troops needed if needed .

It just does not look very good at this point .

Look how the entire world protested the attack on Iraq and we went in anyway . Now it's up to just the american people who are in fear of standing out or up . They have much more crowd control now than 5 years ago , hell , even police have task squads .

This is not to say we should not try , I don't know how we would stop this machine now . As many have said they don't care what the people think .

28. The Day After the Bombing of Iran..
Most Americans will be sitting in front of their TVs watching the 'precision' bomb diagrams and guests like General Betray-Us explaining how everything is going great. They'll be an amazing competition of the networks as to who has the most 'explosive' graphics and catch-phrases "Operation - Iran Freedom!" or "War on Terror: Part II". What there won't be is any up close cameras showing the actual carnage of blown up bodies of children and the sounds of screaming and anguish.

We'll watch the Decider-in-Chief stand up on a podium and explain how he had no choice - he is only listening to his generals (the ones left) - He had to act quickly because of 'intelligence' that he could not share for 'national security' reasons. etc..

And we'll watch his approval ratings climb once again because of the fear button being pushed, and with his ratings up, so too will John, (bomb, bomb, bomb Iran) McInsane's ratings rise.

Sure they'll be some outrage from sites like this, but lets face it, this little shrill corner of the world and others like it don't hold water against the MSMs booming voice.

And that's what scares me. BushCo. and his successor know this is what the day after will look like. They are like rats trapped on a sinking ship and they'll do anything to plug the hole.
