...announcing another routine cave-in, another admission that they can't control their own party members, another lame rationale for avoiding impeachment hearings, another instance of allowing an Iraq funding bill to come to the floor although they could just as easily end the occupation by making Cheney use his own goddamn money to pay for the continued slaughter.
And then they could discuss telecom immunity, how it helps the Bushies avoid another felony charge in their endless crime wave, while "our party leaders" carefully avoid the fact that this illegal spying program began in Feb., 2001, and was not implemented as a result of "the events of 9/11(tm)" as the Bushies claim and mass media dutifully echoes.
Maybe they could get into the joys of torture, American style, which even their iron-fisted leadership couldn't prevent their members from approving.
Maybe they could explain their obsession with helping the Bushies every single time they want more latitude to spy on their own citizens, intercept all domestic electronic communications, compile endless lists of those who don't buy into the Bushie world view... and now the miserable, co-opted, complicit fools
Or they might discuss how the senate, under Reid's guidance, still couldn't avoid confirming nearly every single wingnut federalist society judge the Bushies sent to the hill, hoping to pollute the entire federal bench with insane ideologues for at least the next quarter century.
And the other big handicap they never deal with: These people are so utterly unconvincing, so inept at delivering key messages, so devoid of any style or presence, so thoroughly linked with losing causes, so lousy at their jobs and so obviously ineffectual at even the pretense of leadership...
In short, they shouldn't be allowed on TV because they don't know how to defend themselves against even the mildest GOP attack dogs.
Their best shot continues to be calling treason "disappointing," labeling stunning criminality "unfortunate," sending strongly worded letters, issuing lame statements that nobody cares about enough to give up a single column inch, and generally doing everything they can to discredit the party as a whole, disrespect the people who thought they were voting for change and instead got a couple of accommodating dipshits who couldn't lead a pack of kindergartners, and dishonor themselves by revealing publicly that they're nothing but lying politicians whose only loyalty is to their own reelections.
People want passion and fire, particularly when hatred for the Bushies is so palpable and out front. And they get a couple of pasty faced icons of everything that's wrong with the democratic party, whose passion has been extinguished by the steady flow of corporate bribes, and who come across as fiery as last week's fireplace ashes.
Other than that, I think they make amazingly ineffective advocates for the questionable positions and strategies of a truly dysfunctional political party that wouldn't know how to deliver a message even if they all moonlighted for Western Union.
I'll tell you what I really think a bit later...
