1. Not much demand for their gas guzzlers? If they'd complied with the California
law that required them to make electric vehicles way, way back when it was passed instead of fighting it then all of our car companies would be wading in cash.

5. Families in my neighborhood were furloughed on occasion in the 1970s
Demand would fall off, and many of my friends parents were given unpaid leave for a few weeks. They got their jobs back after the company reduced the excess inventory.

8. This is typical..
My father worked for GM for *years* and even in the glory days of 90 cent gas and SUV's as far as the eye could see he, and every other blue collar worker in the plant, got 2 weeks off in the middle of the summer

9. Isn't that what they do every year? It's used for factory changes
for the new model year. As far as I know, all the car manufacturers do that every year and have for as long as I can remember.
