Buchanan flips out, tells guest to ’shut up!’

Tonight on MSNBC’s Live with Dan Abrams, guests Pat Buchanan, Rachel Maddow, and Keli Goff discussed the role of race in Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. Buchanan suggested Obama is winning the black vote simply because he is black. Goff countered that Obama has won states that have small populations of African-Americans. As Goff spoke, Buchanan grew more agitated, ultimately lashing out. “Shut up for a second please!” Buchanan yelled.

Watch it at link~

“Pat, I’ve been on TV with you a million times,” Maddow said to Buchanan. “I’ve never heard you tell anyone to shut up before. That was absolutely, completely ridiculous of you.”

1. Don't Piss Pitchfork Pat During a Good Racist Rant
He all but perfected the art.

I think Buchanan's torn these days...who to hate more? The bitchy Clinton woman or that colored fella...

4. TURNED OFF Abrams ....
It's not a news show ...
It's a right-wing rant ...

Abrams & Buchanan vs. the two "liberals" of his choice.
Silly show.
He reports AND HE DECIDES.
Screw Abrams, the Hitlery KKKlinton cheerleader.

12. Nice Use Of Freeper...
KKKlinton? For a sec I had to check what website I was on.

I have my problems with Mrs. Clinton...many of them, but using right wing name isn't one of them...maybe that crap gets ya brownie points in GD-Pit.

17. i love abrams (and i'm not a hillary fan) -- his show is "Political Beginner's Mind."
he's the mischievous gnome of punditry, motivating discussion outside of "beltway rules." his thing is to call into question the "received memes of the day." i love that. can do without the shouting matches -- but i'm so addicted to Rachael Maddow, I'll put up with the overtalking to hear her.

as far as his "bias" goes -- i think his bias is to challenge conventional wisdom to see if it holds up to scrutiny. KO is definitely in the Obama camp, so Abrams follows questioning some of that "received wisdom." i think it's good form -- and honestly, her campaign rarely survives scrutiny, so it's extra good to see the pro-Hill arguments fail (and why).

and...he's just adorable -- like a little primate of politics.

If you didn't come over on the Mayflower, you're an illeeegal.

You just know that if there's any labor involved in Pat's world, he'd gladly let the "Mexiucn" do it. I hope they piss in his pool.

Don't confuse Pat with facts. He has enough trouble as it is translating his Nazi rants into English on the fly.

8. This is very telling. Buchanen sounds more and more irrelevant every day.
This comment is classically "Don't confuse me with the facts!"

The guy is old. He looks it and he sounds it. He is completely out of touch and he's floundering around and not making any sense. His day is over and I think he knows it. That's why he's so angry so much of the time...

11. It is obvious that Buchanan does not like Obama...
He goes out of his way to magnify and spin reality against Obama and prop
up Hillary.

There are a lot of commentators who favor Hillary. I've never once suggested
or thought that they were racist. However, Buchanan does seem racist. He
seems indignant about Obama, and it's as if he recoils when another commentator
makes a positive comment about Obama.

What am I picking up on here? Does Buchanan have anything in his background that
would point toward him being a racist?

Please don't flame me. As I said, plenty of commentators seem to side with Clinton, and
never once have I thought they were racist. Something is just off about Buchanan.

to run against in the general than Clinton.

16. have you seen him
with fists clenched like a coach saying "we can do it" when talking about Clintons chances or possible momentum? The GOP is BEGGING for it to be Hillary against McCain-oh yea and Pat Buchanan is an obvious and blatant racist

also TwoSparkles-what it is about Pat Buchanan and Gerri Ferraro for me is this; I see in them my parents during the 60's-Mrs Ferraro reminds me of the way my mother and Aunt talked about spics and pollacks and niggers (sorry-just quoting) and Pat, as my father-the George W Wallace supporter-it was in their DNA from growing up when they did and WHERE they did-how did I ever become a progressive? well I fought hard for it that's how-we don't allow words like that to be part of our family anymore-we have evolved

25. Interesting SoFlaJet....
I grew up in a family like that, too. Racism, sexism, right-wing wackiness and throw in a bit of
religious extremism too.

My father was over-the-top racist, and I kept thinking that Buchanan reminded me of my father! There's
just certain commonalities that these people share.

Like my parents (and yes, my mother was Ferraro for sure--talking in code), their racism was hidden out in
the open. Everyone knew how they felt, even though the words were never spoken.

My grandparents--were blatantly racist. They would use the derogatory language and they would openly
make racist comments, as if it were no big thing.

It was very disturbing to me.

Yeah, I was raised by wolves.

It's a wonder we escaped, SoFla! Glad we did. :)

29. and my mother is a democrat
just like Ferraro-my 4 grandparents all were from Italy and hardly spoke any English I wonder if they ever even voted- it was just a different time to live in I guess-it was survival-the Italians stayed out of the Irish neighborhoods who stayed out of the black neighborhoods-the racist words they used were as a clan calling card

I would consider him to be a strict traditionalist, similar to some Israelis.

33. Exactly
People on DU love to be selectively critical, don't they. The truth is that Buchanan has always "flipped out" when ANYONE continuously interrupts him, no matter who it is. Anyone who thinks this is the only time he did it has never watched him very much in the past.

18. Rachael Maddow REALLY showed her strength last night!
Keli Goff (understandably) got flustered with Pat and reacted emotionally which plays right into his hand. Maddow picked up the ball and ran it into the endzone with his scolding of Pat's youtube-worthy "SHUT UP." it was classic Maddow; why we love her. she SO smart and so in control of the facts/rhetoric that she's unflappable.

having said that -- i think Goff was perfectly correct in her comment on Pat being a typical conservative by "going racial" when there's rhetorical points to be gained.

30. Rachel was very good last night...
..she slammed Buchanan who was busy going on about how ferraro wasn't a racist and Obama was where he was SOLELY because of the black vote when she said "how do you explain his win in Utah Pat?"....the silence was deafening....

there's nights when he's much more to my liking than keith -- i know, blaspheme! he has such a glint in his eye...like, he really loves the dialogue and it's not about winning. quite refreshing. and, i'll say it again... bring back Ashleigh Banfield!
