10. Hagel's Republican on the economy
Maybe if he visits some inner city schools and hospitals, or sees dead senior citizens outside the ER, he'll wake up and realize nothing good comes from Republicanism. But so far, no go. He's a very hardline 'boot strap' Republican.

14. Hagel's a elitist asshole republican bastard to the bone. Just because
he is being outspoken about Iraq means two things, and two things only.

1. He's not brain dead. He knows a lost cause when he sees one.
2. He's taking the side that the majority of Americans is on and he's thinking of running for pResident. Again, he's not stupid.

22. maybe Mark Warner can relieve John Warner of his seat. That will
race, Warner v. Warner, would be as fun as our Goode-Weed race was.

34. I think John Warner will retire. He's 79, I believe. And Mark WILL take his place.
I think there's a reason MW has withdrawn from the presidential race.

6. OK, I'm putting together an email & phone call to Chambliss!
I have to be careful what I saywhen I tell him he has just guaranteed he will NOT get my vote next year, because I wouldn't have voted for him anyway, and I don't really want him to know that. I think he's an arrogant twit who shouldn't have been elected 4 years ago!

I'll work it out though. Sometimes I can get as clever with words as the politicians!

There are a few Sens on that list who don't have to care.

I understand the following are planning to retire and not run anyway.

John Warner
Liddy Dole

Hopefully some other old ones will give it up too!

18. I doubt a TV commercial would be affordable, but maybe someone
know show to make an online video for Youtube. Unfortunately I don't! I'm not sure Sure Scrooge is the right character though. I'm thinking about a big fat pig (as invery wealthy) kissing Shrub's a**! I only wish I knew how to do cartoon videos!!!

19. To me, Scrooge is the ultimate corporate CEO making 400 times
more than his employees. Chambliss deserves something for what he did to Max Cleland. He is a big, fat pig; you're 100% correct.

27. I was under the assumption that it must be put to a vote.
But I could be wrong. But I know I've heard of Congressmen refusing to take the raise.

Anyone know?

29. Here's an interesting article on the matter
http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2004/01/04/congress_helps_itself_to_another_pay_raise/

Once upon a time, senators and representatives knew that before they could raise their salary, they had to hold hearings and take a vote. Those votes could be politically uncomfortable, and the public's reaction had to be taken into account. Not surprisingly, Congress tended to go long stretches between pay raises, and lawmakers knew better than to hike their pay during a recession. (On a few occasions, they even reduced their pay.)

But Congress has changed the rules. Under the system now in place, House and Senate members automatically get a pay raise every year. The only way not to get the raise is to pass an amendment blocking it, and parliamentary hurdles make that difficult to accomplish. Upshot? A congressional paycheck that grows by thousands of dollars a year -- with no hearings, no debate, no media coverage, no public explanations. Above all, no embarrassing votes -- not unless some spoilsport with more integrity than avarice insists on offering a blocking amendment.

One of the very few such spoilsports is Senator Russell Feingold, a liberal Wisconsin Democrat who for several years has introduced an amendment to stop the pay raise, and each time has seen that amendment tabled -- i.e., killed without being brought up for debate and a vote -- by a lopsided Senate majority

15. Kyl and McCain of Arizona: BOTH NO in a state where such an increase is REQUIRED
Arizona has already become the new California we all know this. You can't even live in a broken down shanty even here in Tucson on a the worst side of town unless you pull in at least $8-10 an hour.

Shame on both of you whores.

20. Ya know, I don't even call their offices anymore.
I may occasionally astroturf them, but that's 5 minutes of my life I will never get back.

I love Arizona, but I am so embarrassed by our Senate delegation I can barely stand it. I can't even lay claim to getting rid of JD Worthless.

23. only two of those look vulnerable
New Hampshire and Oregon. The rest look pretty deep red.

It is possible that an awesome Presidential candidate, such as Edwards, could help us take North Carolina, but he did not take it in 2004.

33. Even so, there were several ammendments proposed.
Watching C-Span during the debate, I saw a lot of effort to raise the minimum wage without hurting small businesses and there was some reaching across the isle. The disagreement was on HOW to do it not WHETHER to do it.

Even thought this bill failed, I think we are closer and it's a relief to see the DEMs in charge because the whole tone of the debate is less adversarial and much more about getting the best bill out there for the people and the country.

IF there comes a bill with some sort of formulary created to attach the minimum wage increases to the cost of living in each state, but that still require each state to be fair within those guidelines and with certain provisos to keep small businesses from going under due to a swift change, I think we could wind up with a minimum wage increase that could effectively deal with all criticisms.
