So a Dem--and a high-profile one at that--finally got caught in a big-time morals-related scandal. I guess it only follows the laws of probablility that only so many hundred rethugs could get busted without one or two dems in the mix. I'm not at all happy about the Spitzer scenario but a lot of what I've heard on the radio has still made me proud to be a Dem. Specifically, I've heard a number of supporters (or former supporters) interviewed about the case. They're unhappy. They're shocked. They feel bad for his family. Etc. Etc. But not a single one tried to claim that it was the media's fault. No one suggested that he could simply invoke Jesus and make it all better. No one has made him a martyr for any sort of cause. In fact, the Dems seemed almost as likely to call for his resignation as the repugs. If this had happened to a republican governor he would have been transformed into a hero of the GOP by now, a man scapegoated by an evil liberal media, a victim of overzealous prosecution, etc., etc.... you know the drill. Thanks, Dems...in spite of a sucky situation you've made me proud to be one of you.
