A question about DU's setup -

I have been paying a lot of attention to how fast DU is and wonder:

Are you folks REALLY using MySQL? - I use it but didn't know it could handle the kind of traffic I see here.

What kind of hardware setup do you use?

I assume Linux for the OS....

and probably a cluster of servers.....maybe one of those huge IBM servers running hundreds (thousands, now?) of virtual Linux instances.....


Something really fast and redundant...and more than I can afford......heh.

Properly configured, with a well though out connection scheme, it can really cook!

14. MYSQL has progressed...

Back in the day, it used to have problems with integrity when your tables got up around a million rows. AFAIK, it's pretty stable now and yes, it is scalable to small enterprise levels, but, I doubt it's ready for pan-galactic (NSA) scales. I'm not sure if it has replication and distribution yet.

Throwing more disk at a problem isn't always the solution to scale or slowness.
